Right, I think I'm taking a day off quiz duty tomorrow, having seen the question for today!! Question: Identify these 7 locations: 5 stations (A, C-E and G), 1 type of train (B), 1 type of train and location (F); and the location of the foreground framework. (click for a larger version) The locations are referenced according to the diagram below:

I said today was record-breaking! This is the greatest number of locations to find (7, or 8 including the foreground but that's like a normal background). There were 6 to find on 18 May 2012, but that's the only other day with more than 5. There have been a handful of days with larger numbers of backgrounds/insets though, the maximum being 10 on 7 October 2010. There are 7 photographers' images displayed here, which is also a record, beating the 6 on 18 May 2012. By the end of this month 10 photographers will have featured, beating the previous best of 8 in May 2012.

F is West Ruislip.
As to the type of train I would guess it's the 20s and barriers from an S stock move waiting to return to Network Rail metals.
I'm almost up to my monthly bandwidth limit so I'm not downloading the big picture for a closer look.
Why do they have to be so bl**dy big? On screen I've seen 80k pictures that look just as good as the same at half a meg.

Why do they have to be so bl**dy big? On screen I've seen 80k pictures that look just as good as the same at half a meg. Andy Hmm, that's not an issue I normally think about. The larger versions are normally as they come out of the camera/as they are after I've done whatever manipulation I've done on them. The thumbnails I produce are to fit in with the forum's inline image rules (actually, they adhere to an older version of the rules, not exceeding 640 pixels in the longest dimension and not exceeding 100kb file size). Creating mid-size versions would mean using extra storage space and bandwidth - although I get this for free, I can't take the proverbial too much. For reference, the size on disk (including thumbnails and answer files, which over the whole life of the quiz total 524M and 9.3M respectively) for the quizzes are: Size | Year | 583M | tq2007 | 1.4G | tq2008 | 2.4G | tq2009 | 3.4G | tq2010 | 3.8G | tq2011 | 4.4G | tq2012 | 308M | tq2013 | 16G | Total |
2007 is from 1 February, 2013 is until today. The reason for the increasing size is a combination of more images being used (backgrounds, clue versions, etc) and the increasing size of the source images. I'll have a think if there is anything I can do though, particularly if other people would benefit from this too.

Andy Friendly moderator commentFor someone that gives up a large amount of their time (for free) to set quiz questions for the enjoyment of many of the Forum members, perhaps the correct response there would have been something like: "Thanks a lot for setting the quiz and I really enjoy it every day. Unfortunately I'm on limited bandwidth - do you think it might be possible to upload slightly lower resolution pictures so I too can access it?" I know what my response would be if I was asked in a snarky way about something I was giving for free, both in terms of time and skills. Do think about how your responses can come across. Thanks

Just a quick thing to finish, images within a post are limited so that those on restricted bandwidth are not penalised without warning. Often you may see that Moderators have changed pictures to links, this is in accordance with the Forum Rules. On occassions where the "Click for larger version" image is huge the link to it usually has a warning added by a member of the quiz team. If anyone has any ideas as to how to improve the quiz, do please PM the Quizmaster (Chris M) with your suggestion. Can we now please return to the bewildering array of images that is today's quiz.

Right, think I've got this sorted out! l1group gets the points for the following answers: Location A: Brockley - view from Endwell Road bridge [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Train B: 1938 Stock Location D: Ickenham - view from south end of platforms [bowroaduk] (click for a larger version) Location F: Rickmansworth Location G: Maida Vale - exterior [MRFS] (click for a larger version) allan60 gets the points for getting the full answer for B: Location B: 1938 stock - at Harrow on the Hill platform 4 detail of interior [Caravelle] (click for a larger version) Deep Level gets the points for getting: Location C: Becontree - mirror at top of stairs to wb [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Still to getClue for Location E: (no larger version available) Clue for Train F: (click for a larger version) There's still the foreground to get, but I don't see either a clue or an answer image for it, so I can't post that just now.

F - is that Class 20s hauling London Underground coaching stock taken from a 1938 stock at Rickmansworth for the 1930s(?) day on the Met? And finally, is the rear of that train Sarah Siddons (a guess)?

I1group gets the points for F as it's, "Class 20s and 4TC set from rear cab of 38ts (J door open when cab non-operational, picture taken from saloon)" by Rincew1nd.
E is not Crystal Palace. I1group's guess of Kensal Rise is the closest so far.

Close as in line, or close in location? My second guess is Brondesbury Park or West Hampstead?

Both of those are on the right line. West Hampstead is now the closest guess.

The guesses will end up with me getting to name most stations on that line with a black fence if I have to. Third guess is Gospel Oak?

You get the points. This is londonstuff's photo, and he describes it as "55 Broadway - meeting room ceiling".
