I forgot to mention that there is a bonus available for working out which of the four insets is the odd one out and why

1: Castle Cary 2: Port Talbot Parkway 3: Gloucester 4: Salisbury Gloucester has no island platform...is that the odd one out? Oh yeah, and definitely Ladbroke Grove. I knew all of these locations; shame I wasn't on earlier.

Starting with the on-topic location, Tom gets the points for identifying Ladbroke Grove. More specifically these are windows in the wall of the eastbound platform. (click for a larger version) Moving on to the insets, and starting with number 1 in the top right I'll give the points to 81 stock (even though he though this was number 2) for identifying platform 2 at Port Talbot Parkway. (click for a larger version) Three lots of points go to nv147 for being first to identify all the other insets. In order these are: Inset 2: Gloucester railway station - view east from footbridge [Chris M] Inset 3: Salisbury railway station - view west from platform 5 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Inset 4: Castle Cary railway station - view southwest from footbridge [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Bonus points are still to be awarded though as the lack of island platforms at Gloucester is not the answer. To give you a clue, this is a history question.

Salisbury is the odd one out? It was run by the Southern Railway (and its precursors) whilst the rest were run by the the Great Western Railway (and its precursors).

I refuse to give points for anything related to the Green With Rivets plateway, however you can have some credit for matching the answer on the card.

That platform is one of the claimants to the longest in the UK - it can fit two HSTs on it with room to spare.

I love the length of that platform compared to the train in it ;D. It's actually two platforms: Platform 1 is occupied by the donkey and is used as a bay by reversing Bristol - Gloucester - Cheltenham (and vice-versa) trains, whereas anything heading for Newport uses the crossover to access Platform 2.
