Fingers crossed my internet connection issues have been worked round. At least it's working at the moment, so I can bring you today's single part question with bonus points: (click for a larger version) Bonus question: Why was this inset chosen for today?

I'm going to say that the inset was chosen due to it being Guy Fawkes Night, or is that too easy?

It is over the Thames, but I'm looking for a more specific location than that. The photo was taken more recently than New Year.

It's downstream from Brentford and unrelated to sport.

It wasn't the Jubilee fireworks, and it was further downstream than Vauxhall

is it just downstream of Tower Bridge? I can see a tall ship on the river but the background does not look like the pool of london.

It is downstream of Tower Bridge, I don't think it qualifies as "just" though.

Looks too narrow to be the Thames.
It looks a bit like Fresh Wharf, Barking but of course that's on the Roding rather than the Thames.
Maybe around Greenwich?

It is the Thames, but it isn't Greenwich although that is the closest yet.

Is it the Woolwich Ferry area, maybe Pier Road?

Close enough for me. It's actually a short way down stream from the Woolwich Ferry, being pretty much immediately east of Woolwich Arsenal Pier. It was photographed by me from the Royal Arsenal riverside, looking towards North Woolwich. What was the occasion though?

Yes, the fireworks marked the end of the "Tall Ships thing/event/gathering" known to it's promoters as "Sail Royal Greenwich" in August this year.
