Anyone have specifics as to what 'improving the signalling system' means? Also why Saturday and not Sunday which I assume is an even slower day for the tube?

Bi-Directional signalling between Seven Sisters and the depot and greater flexibilty reversing trains at Seven Sisters. There is a long term plan for trains to be sent unmanned to and from the depot.

Sorry, got to call bulls poo on that one, not sure where you heard it! The 09 Stock trains nor the signalling system architecture supports unmanned operation. There are currently no plans to signal the depot, upgrade the trains to allow autodriving from both ends with no operator present, or to upgrade the ATO to allow it to be commanded to start from off of the train. Plus the fact that you would never be allowed to run a train in auto towards those buffer stops in the depot, and there is no room to put proper train arrestors in.

So will the upgrade be complete after this closure?

Plus you would need to re-signal the depot.
