Well with the first S7s now being delivered, who here is going to miss the old rattlers? The old washing machine motors, the announcements what deafen you when you stand right by the speaker, the flickering lights and the bouncy seats? I know there vandalized stupidly to much, but I'm sure some people are going to miss them? Surely. The S Stocks are great yeah, but these trains have allways been here, and I'm going to miss the shaking and the brakes what throw you off your feet, aren't you? So leave your thoughts below, will you be sad? Or will you be happy to see the end of them and say hello to the brand new, S Stocks

Theres none in service at the moment im afraid. And theres only one currently recently been delivered to neasdon so good luck getting that mate Remember when the 2009 stock came around, I never ever got on one for about a year, and I live on the Victoria line! But im 100% sure that you will get an S8 stock and there exactly the same at the end of the day. There very nice the S8s, I actully find them quite relaxing with how smooth and quiet they are. Have fun

Yes, they have lots of character and they are great people movers. Thinking about it though, they are probably the least popular stock on LU!

On a cold Winter's Saturday evening many years ago I was waiting at Baker Street for a Metropolitan NB service home, after a day out meeting friends in the capital. This was the period of both train and staff shortages on the Met, which meant that cancellations were commonplace and infrequent utilisation of 'C' stock on the Met main was a way to reduce long intervals.
Such was the case on this occasion. First train to Amersham from platform 2! Now the FAST Amersham's were scheduled to depart from one of the bays, normally leaving from platform 4. Odd?
Instead of the train coming in from Finchley Road to reverse, bright headlights lit up the station as a 'C69' cautiously came around the tight curve into platform 2 from Great Portland Street. Oh dear, I thought.
Not a railway enthusiast (insert alternative................) for nothing, this was too good an opportunity to miss, if only for the rarity value. Destination blind changed from Circle Line to Amersham.
NOISY, oh my giddy aunt, yes, SCREECHY under braking, out of this world, ROUGH RIDING extremely, (it made travelling on an 'A' stock seem like riding on a magic carpet), COLD, Antarctically so as the selective door close facility was not used! This was the era prior to refurbishment and the 'C' stock seats were hard, very hard. I think I spent more time being bounced into the air than actually sat on the seat. Had I been a 'normal' passenger it would probably have made me go out and buy a car the next Monday.
There was now snow on the ground at Amersham, the waiting room was long closed, and kebab or fish and chip shops were not really flavour of the month in this part of Buckinghamshire at the time! And a near 30' wait for the return working.
I think I made it back to Harrow before finally showing the white flag. Did I enjoy it? – you betcha. Would I have done it again? Maybe, with payment in advance.
Will I miss the 'C's? Not really, for me they just lacked that bit of character, certainly compared to that of their predecessors the CO/CPs, BUT they have done a sterling job for LUL, especially in these latter years of ever increasing passenger numbers. Plus they were refurbished to a good standard. nv

I used the C stock to go to Uni in the early 2000s. Compared with the S stock they are wonderful! The whine of the motors. They have so much character. The lurching under braking of the Rheo will be missed. The S stock are souless and boring. They will soon destory everything characterful and unique about the SSLs.
I'd have loved to have done the ride out to Amersham. Perhaps it can happen again- just one last time....

Don't worry, when the Ss have been in service as long as the current sub-surface stock has, they'll have their own unique sounds and ride textures I used the C stock to go to Uni in the early 2000s. Not in the slightest. I'm a "tube" train man myself, but after years of travelling on the C Stock, it has nothing over the A & D, or even the S. They look plain both inside & out, have quite an uncomfortable ride and have nothing that makes them unique or special in my opinion.
I'm happy to see them go, although I'd rather the A Stock were taking it's place...

I have read at least one story about a C stock diverted to Uxbridge from the Circle @ Baker St. But I also wonder if a C stock deputized to cover the Ealing Broadway service has ever inadvertently wandered on the Piccadilly past Ealing Common.

True although I didn't use them so much. They were (mostly) retired too early!

I still miss the old "Standard stock" on the Central in the 1950s.

The Standards went before I was born, but I do remember the 1938 stock and CO/CP stock which were around when I was little.

The UNDMs went into service on the Bakerloo in the early 1950s. They started to be withdrawn (they were mostly 1949 stock) in the early/mid 1970s along with the pre-1938 stock '58 trailers.
Who remembers the C stock with the transverse seats?

The last ones were refurbished just before I was born. So I've never experienced the transverse seats on a C Stock. I won't miss them - gosh the gapping!

i do remember C stock - before changes the seatings was different from now the emergency alarms or brake handles was found on poles but after refurishment - they have pull down handles on walls i had nearly pulled it at Amsterdam Metro due my mum got trapped in doors i had to locate emergency alarm handle its was next to doors but higher level due i am in wheelchair the train driver reopened doors again after long wait - they should have safety sensors on new trains because older trains are bit dangerous

The flickering light thing has been like that sice they changed the lighting electronics several year's back, which cause those strange effects.

Who remembers the C stock with the transverse seats? Yes. With the '77s having the extra blue panel heaters by the doors, quite pleasent to lean against in the winter! The illuminated adverts overhead lacking any adverts and gradually falling into disrepair! The different coloured roofs too, of black, white, silver. What could be nicer?! (other than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! ): www.trainweb.org/tubeprune/C%20Stock%20orig%20interior.jpg © Tubeprune
