The end of the month is fast approaching, soon it'll be June and various other J-lettered shenanigans. Today a four-part question to keep your grey matter ticking over: Identify these stations and the link between the four main ones (insets in B are not part of the link). Station A: (click for a larger version) Station B: (click for a larger version) Station C: (click for a larger version) Station D: (click for a larger version) For ease of reference, the insets in image B are numbered from left to right.

Now that I've given Chris M a couple of photos for the quiz I hope I don't make myself look like a complete tool by guessing on my own photos. I'll go for a) being High Barnet and d) being Hounslow West. c) as Mornington Crescent as a complete guess.

Inset B2 looks like Monument albeit lacking the gold flame. B is Clapham South +1

I'm not sure about the rules of this. Are you allowed to guess multiple times?

Yes my lad, but I'd stick to one for today, and then one a post if you don't get the answer right.
Of course, with this being a multiple picture question, you can always post a guess for each part and inset.

There are no firm rules about it, but generally people stick to one guess per image/part unless they change their mind (which cancels their earlier guess). You are of course allowed to be uncertain (e.g. "I think B is either Ongar or Blake Hall, but I'm not sure which") but, whether you get points* for it if one of them is right is entirely down to how generous the person doing that days scoring is feeling. *Points are one of the few things about the quiz that I don't keep track of at all. My gut feeling though is that if I did, Deep Level would probably top the charts this month. TheOneKEA was nearly unstoppable in the early days, and would probably still place highly on an all-time chart, but as he hasn't taken part in a long time it's difficult to say where. There are also more locations to find these days - an average of 1.0 locations/day in 2007 rising steadily to 1.43 in 2011 and 1.47 so far this year. The number of background images is more complicated, so here's a table for those of you who like statistics. Year | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | Quiz days | 332 | 342 | 334 | 356 | 351 | 177 | Days with insets | 26 | 84 | 96 | 91 | 81 | 41 | % Qs with inset | 7.83% | 24.56% | 28.74% | 25.56% | 23.08% | 23.16% | Number of insets | 27 | 110 | 173 | 186 | 135 | 71 | Average per inset Q | 1.04 | 1.31 | 1.8 | 2.04 | 1.67 | 1.73 | Average per all Q | 0.08 | 0.32 | 0.52 | 0.52 | 0.38 | 0.4 |
The data for 2012 is to 25 June, the latest question set.

Speaking of points..I've managed to do about 5 months of point-tracking since I started. Bloody hard.

;D that statistic got me quite excited. Perhaps you should start keeping track of points and announcing maybe monthly & yearly who is the top ranker and also keep track of the all time highest ranker. Or perhaps you could have someone do it for you, I'd surely volunteer myself to do that for you . Perhaps there could be a sticky thread in this board with the top 5 all time rankers and the monthly and yearly top rankers?

Indeed it (keeping track of points) is hard. A few years back I started tracking them, but it isn't easy do define things - does someone who says +1 to the right answer get the same points as the first person to say it - would they have known it without person 1's help? What about when the first poster wasn't sure but the second person is - did they know it all or was it the suggestion of person 1 that helped them to the answer? Then you get into things like PM answers - not all were announced on thread, not all sent to any one person and not all kept.
I regard all the data for the quiz as public domain so anyone is free to do anything with it they want. If there is a statistic you'd like to see, just say - chances are that I already calculate it or can do so without much work (the spreadsheet I use to track the quiz has 142,877 cells with content in. They are spread over the following sheets, which (roughly) give you an idea of what is available: Locations, Photographers, Question stock, Links, Backgrounds, Stat lookup, Desire category, Per day, Months, Day of month, Intervals, Gazetteer. (the Gazetteer is far from complete though).

The way I've been doing it, it's first come first points..then back in the depths Chris had some 'two-parters' that were the same station, and I'm counting them as one point.
Buggar..I've lost the document. Probably on my USB, hopefully. Anywho, Whoever answered March 11th 07..please step forward? For now you will be credited as 'March 11th 07'.
Another question! Who answered first on the 6th of April 2007 - TheOneKEA or TMBA? For now, I'll credit TOK.
Here's a fun fact: There were 14 consecutive different winners from 29/3/07 - 11/04/07, starting with trainopd78 and ending with TheOneKEA.
More, more! Who answered first on the 15th of April 2007? TOK or JoinTheDots? Once again, I'll go for TOK.
And the 19th of April..and the 24th of April..

That's fine, all we were after was that the stations include one of the compass points in their name.
