If it is Gants Hill, there has been some jiggery-pokery going on with the photograph. The Lloyds Bank is on the corner of Cranbrook Road (towards Barkingside) and Eastern Avenue (towards Newbury Park). This would mean that the right hand side of the road we can see going into the distance would have shops, a view of the Valentine Pub and what now replaces the cinema. But it does feel very like Gants Hill. (I grew up around there).

I am thinking if you walked past that yellow sign in the picture, the first bus stop you would come to is Cranbrook Road (Stop EC) served by routes 66, 296 and 396. If this is the case, the station is definitely Gants Hill

I have just checked on Google Earth Street View it certainly looks like that area.

That's not the case at all, the shops on the of Cranbrook Road (South) and Eastern Avenue (East) & The Valentine Pub would be much to the right of the photo, you will first come across the block of flats that replaced the Odeon (although the photo looks to old for that). The houses that you are seeing to the right of the photo are the houses on the Eastern Avenue which is the road in shot and to the very right looks like scaffolding so I'm thinking that the photo was taken during the building works of the flats.

I see what you mean, Deep Level, in that case the photo seems to have some very interesting foreshortening, as the houses look too big for their distance away from the roundabout.

It appears to be taken with a telephoto lens, hence the foreshortening. I go with Gants Hill.

If it is Gants Hill, there has been some jiggery-pokery going on with the photograph. Jiggery-pokery? This is a serious quiz on a par with Mastermind, University Challenge and Only Connect (the latter with less gin); how dare you suggest that we ever, ever, jigger or even poker with the images used?

We had had all sorts of teasers lined up too, but jeebeelodo takes the points. Gants Hill - roundabout in January 2008 [Chris M] (click for a larger version)
