Hello
I've just watched the My Family episode where the Harpers are stuck at a signal on the tube. The train they are on appears to be a 1973 stock. Does anyone have any information about where the filming took place and what units were involved?
Thanks

Thanks I would guess, like the recent discussion of an old episode of "london's burning", it woyld have been on the Aldwych branch. I don't know when the 1972 unit that lives there now took up residence?

No there was no station involved. It was purely the train which had been refurbished

IIRC that episode the train carriage is a studio mock up.

Really? I have to say they did a very good and accurate job. Usually mock up are extremely inaccurate. The detail was spot on!

It's a studio mock up and I agree they looked at the details!

If it's the episode I'm thinking of and beimg very familiar with 73 stock interiors I thought the mock up wasn't very good, but there again, I was working on these trains every day at that time.

Dreadful and embarrassing. Ceiling cat and I watched it through our claws and fingers respectively. The driver's PAs were cringe worthy. I haven't seen it since it's first airing, and I don't think I'll bother to catch it in future. All in all a dreadful middle class and unfunny multi series set in a chaotic but designer designed house of a well off dentist and his dippy missus n family. Pass me the laughing gas before I drill out me brain...........

One of the cast members was quoted a few years back that the scripts were getting so bad that the actors were starting to refuse to perform them.
Was never really that good, but it still had its 'day' long, long ago. And its a shame because Robert Lindsay is a good lead actor, in fact none of the original cast iirc imho were dreadful. Its just the show thats lazy, boring, and predictable.

It's a dead duck now, isn't it? IIRC it was the first sitcom produced in the UK using the American team-writing system. I preferred 2 point 4 children to be honest - spending almost the entire run time to set up a single comic tableaux - there was craftsmanship. That other one... Outnumbered... they had a day trip to London episode didn't they? Did that involve a tube journey? I know they were on a bus at one point.

I actually watched that Outnumbered episode recently. It was much better than the My Family episode but did not involve the tube. 1018509 how can you say the mock up was poor? It was exactly like a 73 stock. Usually when using an underground mock up on TV the producers don't take notice of a particular stock. Here they actually did base it on a real tube train

Yearsago there was an episode of Shelley where there was a tube breakdown. Might have it on video somewhere

I don't think the mock-up was too bad, but it was certainly obvious that it wasn't the real 1973 stock!
Does anyone know if a clip of it is available on YouTube as I can't find it?

......... 1018509 how can you say the mock up was poor? ......... Because I spent many weeks having to scrape off old stickers inside the cars and replacing various bits of trim I got to look closely at the interior and became familiar with it. In these circumstances even a small error in reproduction glares out at you.
