Just something amusing I thought of. When S Stocks start running on the District and H&C, BBC will have to change the sounds of the trains in Eastenders. During the stage of the S Stock being introduced, there have to use the old sounds and the new sounds together.
This assumes that the BBC producers of Eastenders are even aware that new trains are on the way. It would not surprise me to learn that they are still using a recording of R stock.
I think the current (C Stock) sounds were recorded by simply hanging a microphone from a window at TVC! as the signal/trainstop sound is in the correct position.
As they can't even get the local accents right, I very much doubt such a small matter as a cardboard train running over a bridge will have the right sound...
I've always been unsure of Eastenders train use/noises.. They have a tube station, that has all the right bits, except I cant imagine it being too practical in the peak Plus will this station suffer staff cuts and ticket office hours hehe
I seldom watch Eastenders and never noticed the trains but as a rule it is quite entertaining spotting the use of inappropriate locations by watching trains in the background. I have seen The Bill suddenly hop across The River and one episode of Morse included a lineside scene with OHLE.
If you know the supposed area you can usually spot plenty of errors. For example Morse regularly set off in exactly the opposite direction to whatever location held the latest murder while a wonderful scene on The Bill once had a conversation between driver and passenger where one of them was in a police car in The Highway while the other was in Cable Street
Eastenders is an incredibly unrealistic programme, so I doubt they would take much interest in the new train sounds! I've yet to come across a place in London which is anything like Albert Square lol. I doubt there is anywhere as dangerous lol.
I've recently stopped watching the programme, but I remember they're not great with representing transport. I remember seeing a little burgundy Plaxton Primo bus operated by Carousel Buses with a digital display operating route 15 - TfL would go mad if something like that turned up on the route in real life! Pretty sure they used a Northern Line train in one scene when a character was leaving. Although, when they do interior scenes on the Tube, they usually use an up to date mock-up D-stock train.
I know us railway purists will seek to find perfection in issues such as this (I am guilty of pulling apart such things, and have yet to watch the film "The Taking Of Pelham 123 for fear of sitting through it picking holes in the rules and regs procedures used ;D) but, as I try to tell myself, you do need to keep in perspective that: a) The average member of the public will not notice** b) This is merely a cast of actors performing a show using props. At the dawn of theatre, very little was used, and much of the scene had to be conjured up by the actors.
**Some members of the public will doubtless be sat there commenting on the fact that the packaging of a product in the shop has changed or that the weather is very different from that now, or that the paving slabs outside Dot Cotton's house are of a type that haven't been manufactured for over 50 years and never used in the East End. We all have our areas of expertise ;D

Watch the original - you may be slightly surprised - (cue TP and his story about the gun on the Interboro').
NYSubway signaling - far, far more complex than the combine: far more flexible - didn't waste their time with centralisation until quite late on.
If we can have A 244/R 246A, ODX 246A/R 246B, A 246B/ROD 1, OD 1/ROD 2 then I'm going to have A (7)88/R (7)90A, NHX (7)90A/R (7)90B, A (7)90B/RNH 1, NH 1/RNH 2 and hang the consequences!
I note no train ever seems to stop at Walford, they all run through. sruely the cast of EastEnders must have a very long wait to get anywhere.
And they were still using a Routemaster long after they were generally withdrawn; the FX4 taxi still frequents the Square, and the morris Traveller still hasn't been wheel clamped or towed away for out-of-date tax!
Also, The Arches mechanics' hands never seem to get dirty...
