Hi can anyone tell me what the last stock was without an EP brake, so it only had the Westinghouse brake?
Thanks,
David

On the tube side Standard stock was built without EP until (I think) the 1931 batch. After that EP was fitted and the rest gradually retro-fitted line by line.
As for the SS stock I'll try to find a book unless someone beats me to it.

For some reason I want to say that the O and P stocks were the first fleetwide stocks to have EP...

Quick resume of EP brakes on LU:
Some initial trials about 1916 but no details known. Tests on F Stock train 1927. Service trial 1928 and all F Stock fitted by 1930. 1929 Standard Stock order for Picc. was first new stock to get ep brakes - rest of Standard Stock done by 1936. First SS fleet with ep was O Stock with Regen and retarders (TheOneKEA is correct). Retarders retro-fitted to earlier ep trains by 1939. First self-lapping brake was on 1936 Tube Stock. Last Westinghouse only stock in passenger service was T Stock (Vickers).

According to 'Steam to Silver', for the SS stock, the first type to be delivered with EP brakes was the M stock in 1935. Much messing about (disconnecting/reconnecting in some cases) occurred later, but M was the first, which is why it got a different class from the otherwise virtually identical L class, which was the last with only Westinghouse as built.

Sorry to split hairs, but there were 28 M Stock vehicles and only 24 of them had ep brakes as delivered in 4x6-car trains. In my original reponse, I was referring to "fleet-wide" installation, which is why I chose O Stock. The M Stock was built by Birmingham and was called M to distinguish it from the N Stock, which was built by Metro-Cammell. Sorry for the confusion.

Great! I like splitting hairs when it gets to total accuracy . That's the sort of detail Graeme Bruce didn't go into.

Metropolitan 'Steam Stock' - 1962 - Fitted with Vacuum Brake. More hairs to split - Loco working stopped in September 1961 and the Vickers lasted until October 1962.

I would have thought the last stock without EP brakes would have been the H stock (ex C/D/E District stock) retired from 1952-58

The EP brakes ordered for the retrofitting of the T stock were never installed, and eventually got used in another stock. It escapes me which!
So the last SS was the T stock, and the last TS was the...erm...the converted former gate stock single cars used on the aldwych shuttle?

Of course-why did I think that 1958 came after 1962? I believe one train of T stock was fitted with EP brakes, but as you say the programme was aborted.
