Even though the drivers will have handheld radios in the new Connect system, are the radios being wired up to the safety-critical electrical circuits in the train so that when going 'off juice' as a result of traction loss or MCB operation, the radio isn't affected?
(I remember solidbond's earlier dislike of the wiring up of the D stock CIS, and how it made a mishmash of his training regime because nothing was wired up the way it was supposed to be...)

I would have thought it would be the same as the old system via MA or batteries, through a voltage regulator to the radio equipment.

On Connect fitted trains the old system is killed, so I assume the power supply has simply been diverted to the Connect unit.
