At Highbury and Islington....
Opposite the stairs leading to the new platforms and inbetween the escalators and the ticket barriers there is a space the size of a couple of badminton court going completely spare.....
What's that about?
Also, are there any plans to open the old entrance on Holloway Road or is that dead for good?

"Reserved for future development" And look where the signals are positioned with regards the Camden Road bound platform! Guess there has to be a certain amount of leeway for any errant train that might over-run!

On the subject of Highbury & Islington, that link to the NLL from the ELL on platform 2 seems a bit pointless as the third rail ends just short of the end of the platform, then there is a non-electrified gap of at least a full car length before the OHLE starts after the platform ramp (behind signal EL318). As I understand it class 378s can only change from AC to DC or vice versa when stationary.

if the gap is only approx: one car lenght it could go forward on 3rd rail until pan is under ohl and then stop and change.

The space was provided by building on the former NR Staff Car Park. The new station control room is now located there. In the next 12 months the empty space will be fitted up and ticket gates installed. The exterior wall onto the street will be removed and gates installed. This space will become the exit from the station and the current ticket office will be for entry only. It is also intended that the old staff rooms located opposite the top of the escalators will be removed as well to provide even more circulating space for passengers, giving greater direct access between LO and LU. There are also plans to refurbish the dingy exterior station facade as well. All of this paid for in part, by Section 106 (S106) contributions from the Emirates Stadium. As far as the old station entrance on the other side of Holloway Road is concerned, that is gone forever. It's used for operating purposes. However, there will be a new station entrance/exit located next door to the old one by 2018 when the new Lifts to the LU/NR platforms are provided.
