I've just been browsing a Glasgow Subway website and was surprised to see that their trains have "identical" auto-couplers to LUL stock. (New LUL stock not included?)
OK the pipework and stud connections will be different but essentially they are the same animal.
No they won't couple to LUL, or rather they will, but there will be a hell of a mess because the track gauges are not compatible.
Not strictly an LUL thread but interesting as I have never seen much LUL type rolling stock equipment in use on other railways

LUL were heavily involved as consultants for the Subway...
ISTR that the 73Ts story is a 'bit of a myth'.

Wernt they based on 1973ts? From the sole bar up they're not; below they may be but I doubt it as they are quite small trains as the gauge is a good deal smaller than standard.

I'm sure Circles under the Clyde mentioned that a number of auto-couplers were bought second hand from LT and they were originally mounted on 1938TS which had gone for scrap.

The Glasgow cars were built at Metro-Cammell at the same time as 73TS was finishing and C77 being built. I remember seeing all 3 sizes together. I don't recall the Glasgow autocouplers looking as though refurbished, but maybe they were done very thoroughly? ISTR that the traction equipment was closer to 67TS than 73TS, i.e. 2 PCM's not one long one. More recently, new equipment fitted I think.

Just to add something related that I asked about long long ago, the tunnel gauge is 11', opposed to a nominal 11'8ΒΌ" in most of London.
Pity a pic doesnt exist of all three side by side. Would be a very interesting comparison.

There is a pic of all three side by side, plus a car for Hong Kong.

I've found the picture, its in a book about Metro-Cammell by Keith Beddoes and Colin and Stephen Wheeler. In fact it shows a Hong Kong Metro car, a Tyne & Wear Metro car, 69/72TS and a Glasgow subway car lined up together. However the photograph is heavily re-touched and may be a composite.
