Is the Ex East london line ATO? It has signals but I am not sure what type of signling system they use is it fixed block or moving block?

Its 'Dorman' signalling, I think?

Do you mean the ELL as it is now? It has 3 aspect signalling and a maximum line speed of 40 mph. We don't need ATO and there is no need for it on our line.

At the risk of sounding like jardine01, surely ELL gets up to higher speeds on longer stretches such as between Norwood Junction and Anerley. I have the feeling Southern do in their Class 377s on the slow lines.

I think notatraindriver means the new ELL from New Cross/New Cross Gate - Dalston, as the bit south of there is on the traditional Brighton Line from London Bridge, it only came into LOROL's hands when the franchises changed slightly.

Yes you are both right. South of New Cross Gate the line speed is 60 but trains don't need to do more than 40 to keep time.

Yes but they sometimes like to go at linespeed just to feel the wind in their hair and then sit around for ages at Forest Hill whilst waiting for the timetabled departure time!

Seriously do you guys notice the difference between a 378 accelerating up to near line speed compared with one that shuts off power at just under 40 given that the stops are close together? Was just curious.
