im a bit stuck now... having got so close to the answer... i know they have more than one entrance, they all have footbridges... forest hill is LO which seperates it from the others, but that is too obvious.... is it to do with car parks?

Nothing to do with car parks. Can't really think of anything much without giving it away - Think of platforms and where they are in relation to the stations in question....

Is the inset on the Panama canal? (Which is what I actually thought of first, but thought too far fetched)
as for the odd one out, perhaps it's that Forest Hill was not on the LNER, as the others were?
Or is it to do with the structure after all? Have the platforms all moved at soime time in their history?

Not the Panama Canal, that'd be too far South.
The next guess isn't far off in terms of structure, but AFAIK it's nothing to do with platforms moving, just where they are in relation to another part of the stations.

Maybe true (I don't know), but not the answer on this occasion. The operator (LO/LU) is not relevant at all to this question.

The word "access" is a major clue....

Ok I have 2 guesses here:
1) Is it that Debden is the odd one out because the station building has access to both platforms where as the others don't?
2) Or is it that Woodside Park is the odd one out because it is the only one that has 2 entrances where as the others don't?

I think I've already said that multiple entrances aren't relevant. The station building at Debden doesn't give access to both platforms (you have to walk along the platform to the footbridge) and while you are close to the answer you haven't got it yet.

Is it to do with step-free access? Is the odd one out Amersham?

Do they all have a public right of way across the station?

Think of the platforms and the general station layout. Platforms are key, as is a specific part of the stations.

Step free access but from only one of the 2 entrances? The number of entrances is completely irrelevant.

Forest Hill has steps to the main ticket building, where the others have step free access?

you're very, very close. Forest Hill isn't the odd one out though.

Do you have to use steps to get onto the platforms except woodside park?

I'm guessing Debden is the odd one out.
In the other locations, the ticket hall is on the London-bound platform and to get to the country-bound platform you need to go through the ticket gates and cross to another platform (using stairs/lifts).
