Brings a whole new meaning to the term 'Dying for a cigarette'. I have no sympathy for this person whatever, my thoughts are entirely with this mans family.

Just read about this in todays Daily Mirror, they said somthing about an online forum, turns out it wernt this one! It's from here. www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=47749I would have posted the thread here but there are rules against one under related posts so I didn't. I was on the train at the time and a lot of news sites/papers have (wrongly) quoted me as being a rail worker.

I was lucky enough not to see it actually happen but I did see the aftermath, I was pretty miserable the next day, though.

Ahh right, anyone would Bengley. Which unit was it? MODERATION:Do you not think you request was at the least insensitive and also bizarre? A person was killed and all you care about is the train number. Some 'outside' folks look at this forum and call us a bunch of train-spotters. Reading your post would confirm their worst fears.......... May I suggest that if you are that desperate in the future you PM the person concerned.

I didnt just care about the train number, I cared about how Bengley felt about the incident if you read the previous posts

So why did you ask for the number?

Apologies if it sounded abit insensitive but surely the 'dying for a cigaratte' comment was just as bad

Surely when someone has been killed, the number is completely irrelevant though, or have I missed the point.

I'm just confused as to why the number was relevant. That's all.

I think given the fact (having seen our internal reports into this incident, and having spoken to the controller on duty, and one of the duty managers having to assist in the aftermath) that the poor chap didn't die having a cigarette, discussion surrounding anything to do with the incident is, at the very least in my opinion, in breach of the forum rules, and also insensitive to anyone involved with the incident.
As for unit numbers, I could real off all 8 cars involved, but it won't bring him back. It won't also send a message to those who think themselves invincible after a few pints that they are not. A very unfortunate accident. Maybe leave it there folks?
