I love planned engineering work on the Heathrow branch. On such occasions, TravelCards are accepted on Heathrow Express. It's the only situation I can think of where planned engineering work proves to be a great advantage.

They're not accepted nowadays. And vice versa, on the Heathrow Express/Connect strikes, their tickets were not accepted on LU either.
What's done nowadays is buses to another LU station with trains.

Monkfish is correct, HEX no longer accept LUL tickets during planned engineering works.

There's usually an express coach to Hammersmith from somewhere on the route, and a local bus service between the other stations also stopping at Ealing Broadway.

Absolutely!! Well said! It gives an opportunity to see the floodlights of London's greatest football club as you go along the elevated section towards Osterley, whereas the nearest point on the Picc is Boston Manor.

Yes, of course, Oracle.
Unfortunately, that was so easy (London's greatest football club was a giveaway), it was not today's quiz question, so no prize for you.

OTT: we went to Brentford's LDV Trophy match at Wembley. First time at the stadium since the London Cup in 1941ish! They lost.

What is the actual reason behind Heathrow Express no longer accepting LU tickets during these closures? Is is related to money?

I believe so, i think BAA wanted more money than TFL was prepared to pay Or TfL didn't have as much money to pay! This happened at the time that anything costing over £50 (unless it was through SAP I believe) had to be authorised by the MD!

Why not incorporate Heathrow, Gatwick and Stanstead Express into LO?

LO doesn't have to swallow up every franchise around the vicinity of Greater London does it?
And besides, Stansted and Gatwick are hardly 'in London'.

So what are tfl expecting to do during these closures. Make everyone go onto a bus to Feltham, then SWT in town? 5/6, 12/13 November: "No service between Acton Town and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5. Reduced service Acton Town - Cockfosters. Three Rail Replacement Bus Service will operate as follows:- Service A: Acton Town – Heathrow T1, 3 Service B: Acton Town – Heathrow T4 – Heathrow T5 Service C: Ealing Comm– Ealing Broadway– South Ealing– Northfields– Boston Manor– Osterley– Hounslow East– Hounslow Central– Hounslow West– Hatton Cross- Heathrow T1,3"

They are London's airports. London Transport when it was created in 1933 served areas far further away from London than either Gatwick or Stanstead.

No, but they do now all call themselves "London something", e.g. "London Stansted". I think Luton is now 'London Luton' and I recently saw a reference to 'London Biggin Hill'. It's only a matter of time before a politician who has some of our money to play with, finds a map and some coloured pens, then starts drawing wiggly lines all over the map. That's allegedly how Brunel started it all.

As for those wishing to go eastbound, they can get Route H91 from Hounslow West station which goes via Osterley, Gunnersbury and Turnham Green stations to Hammersmith station. Or they could go to Heathrow and start their journey from there. Oh, and I should add, my closest station is Hounslow Central.

What is the actual reason behind Heathrow Express no longer accepting LU tickets during these closures? Is is related to money? Compare the difference in prices - I'd go for the money option. Plus it's two different companies, so HEX aren't going to take freebies when the punters can pay through the nose for their service, but in all honesty, I can see what's so great about taking the HEX in the first place. Now that's my view, and not that of this site, so take it at face value.

Southend Airport has now jumped onto that bandwagon, and is now 'London Southend', and BBC Look East described it as the 'closest airport to the olympic park', forgotten about London City
