Out of retirement? It's been running railtours for years! Also, you only need to look at the DRS, NR, WCRC and GBRF fleets to see locomotives of a similar vintage working, reliably, day in, day out, all across the network. Where's their media coverage? Not that I think Deltics are overrated or anything... ;D Having said that, it's good to see a preserved loco earning its keep, particularly in scenery like this! www.flickr.com/photos/alasdairmulhern/5777555590/sizes/l/in/photostream/

This story makes Hornby's 'Mixed Goods' set look realistic!

Yeah, apparently 55022 has been working the service since April. The beeb's just a tad slow... Out of retirement? It's been running railtours for years! Plus, it wouldn't be a story unless the media sensationalise it ;D

Hardly news - it's been around for over a month! And it's not the first - a number of preserved dmus were bought back for parcels use. Not even a first for preserved Deltics - the Manchetser-Ramsgate regular service (not an enthusiast special) used a spot hired one in the summer Saturdays of 1998 and 1999. Indeed, not even a first for Royal Scots Grey! ( cliphere - about 4 minutes in) here here or here

I did wonder what it was all about, I had the tv on mute at the time.
I can remember many a trip as they were being phased out on the East Coast Mainline when travelling back to London at weekends in the early to mid 80's.

After withdrawl of the class, whats the highest number that have possessed a mainline running certificate at once, and when was this?
They're very handsom locos.

True, this aint new, it was in the Railway Magazine four weeks ago. As soon as more 66s get delivered soon, these freight runs will cease.

Deltics? Handsome locos indeed but horribly small cabs.

Borrowing preserved locos is regular down here:
There's at least 6 being used at the moment.
It's quite a good little money earner for preservation groups.
