Today coming back from seeing 6M95 at Kensington Olympia, departing Acton Town looking over at the museum depot like I usually do, I saw I think about 4 92ts cars in Ealing Common depot. Does anyone know what its doing there?!

It's going on the South Ealing test track next week. It was piloted over today using 1959 Tube Stock. Another 4 cars due tomorrow.

The pilot 59's were part of a Rail Adhesion Train unit sandwiched either end

Which ones are they then? Not the Central Line 1962 set?

Will the train be fitted with Tripcocks to run on the test track? Or does the line have all sorts of signalling fitted?

Could this be a time when the answer 'both' is used? The 62ts set behind has shoebeams on every bogie, so presumably that it implies its DM-NDM-NDM-DM. That amount of power would only be required if it were dragging/ propelling something. However we know that some pilot units were fitted for taking traction signals from whatever they were piloting in order to avoid awkward shunting work. So... The consist is being driven from the 92ts, but motored from the 62ts? Or not, possibly

I must admit I'd assumed the 62TS would top & tail the 92TS, but clearly it was on the west end. This was of course how 95TS/96TS were moved and, indeed, this 4-car 62TS was previously employed on such work prior to being converted for rail adhesion duties (with an extra car). I wonder if that east end 92TS DM had been in the middle for some time, what with it displaying no headlights or LED set number! :-(

Perhaps the photographer can tell us what noise it made as it went past?

The 92ts did get to Ongar, on test though, not in service.

The other question is what is it going to South Ealing Test Track for?

The other question is what is it going to South Ealing Test Track for? Probably for brake testing, I think the Rolling Stock standards require an emergency brake test every 3 years. Haven't got a copy of it to hand at the moment! Regards, Dan

It would seem the 92TS was being propelled by the 62TS, itself driven from the middle cab, as there appears to be no one at the controls in either outer end cab. All 8-cars should have moved to the test track today, though the proposed time for this (08:00) was far too early for me to look for it! I believe it'll be there next week which will give a further chance of photography.

Just out of interest, why wasn't it just run as an 8-car under its own power from Ruislip to Ealing Common and thence Northfields rather than half a unit propelled by a 62 stock?

That could be alieviated by double manning, which presumably happened anyway? Issues with signalling interferance?
