I'm conscious that this is ground that is a little tricky, so I'm posting this really only as an information link rather than as a topic for discussion. In fact, so much so that I'm merely going to quote someone else: From @davegorman: "Urban explorers get into London's now abandoned, underground post office railway: bit.ly/e1udvv (I didn't even know it existed)"

I read somewhere that it is still maintained, which is probably why the running rails still have a silver top.

I read somewhere that it is still maintained, which is probably why the running rails still have a silver top. Yes, every reference I have seen about it describes it as 'mothballed' rather than derelict or abandoned! I fail to see how it can 'lose' the kind of money quoted (although I do not doubt the voracity of the statement) when you look at the appalling amount of road traffic in and around London, especially between the points served. How many more diesel emitting trucks are needed to move the amount of mail carried by 'Rail Mail'?

Mail Rail is indeed maintained - infrastructure, tunnels, sumps, drains, etc. However, only one track is available for running the engineers train - WB line Mount Pleasant - Paddington and EB line Mount Pleasant - Whitechapel.

another Holy Grail of urbex? Pshaw! I've been in there, and long before them. However, as rincew1nd rightly says, this is a tricky area for discussion.

As much as I appreciate the photographs the system was entered illegally and they could have been charged with trespass at the very least I think that this thread should now be locked.
