Here's an exciting question. Where have all the LU platform vending machines gone? The choccy ones? Removed because one started emitting lots of smoke, at Oxford Circus IIRC, and a change in supply contract. Plus they were ever so unreliable. They'd take yer money and dispense nothing, or a warm melted lump, or would just malfunction and dispense constantly, jamming the tray!

Here's an exciting question. Where have all the LU platform vending machines gone? Well, as at one time of day, one could purchase 20 John Player No6 on the system, and with products containing nuts blah blah blah, it's probably wiser not to have them - Not to mention the security of them. Those little panels of glass with wire though them were an easy target, and they did get regularly used as weapons when football hooliganism was rife, I've got a scar on my forehead as testament. Things have been tightened so much over the years, it's almost certain that it's more of a risk to have them there rather than the profit that could be made.

They were decommissioned about late-summer 2007 and removed very soon after.
Also, in a very senior manager's eyes, their demise removed unwanted platform "clutter".

Shame the same policy isn't in force regarding audible 'clutter'!

They were decommissioned about late-summer 2007 and removed very soon after. All of them except the ones at Baker Street jubilee! which also have the payphones next to them still to, doubt they work anymore though. I understand getting rid of the choccy ones, useless they were. But they should have kept the coke ones, it was nice when you were down the pipe on a hot day and nip off the train to quickly to grab a drink.

Anyone who travels the Northern Edgware branch - is there still one on the disused "staff" platform? There was at the end of last year IIRC when I last looked!

They were decommissioned about late-summer 2007 and removed very soon after. Was it really as late as that? I don't remember seeing them in donkeys years! Mind, I suppose it's one of those things, you go through stations on such a regular basis that you take no notice of the surroundings due to a state of "autopilot" - It was only at Acton last year when I saw the old 50p/70p/80p ticket machines and remembered them, but never actually saw them vanish, nor noticed that they had gone! (OT, but I'm sure they were still 50p for a Z2 ticket in the early 90's)

I once managed to fill my boots at Northolt. Bought a single bar of chocolate only to find an avalanche of assorted goodies once the flap was released.
No shred of guilt - it made up for all the times, over the years, when I lost my money! IMHO the machines were a bit like the proverbial "one armed bandits".

Yes, it was 112. I complained once and got a letter in reply telling me to use that code before buying something. Made the jumping off a train, buying chocolate and jumping back on a longer process... But added to suspense of it I suppose...

There isn't one of the original platform dispenser ones, but yes there is a chocolate and separate drinks vending machine on the staff platform at Golders Green.

They should bring drinks ones back. I used to love waiting for the Shuttle at Chalfont and getting a bottle of coke from the platform.
