If there are no services north of KXSP, why are the departure boards showing "Arnos Grove" trains For one, I am sure that KXSP's reversing sidings cannot handle the dense service that the Piccy offers. Furthermore, I was thinking that the ex-Heathrow services would operate all the way to KXSP; while the Uxbridge branch would only operate an Acton Town shutle.

The TD shown is Hyde Park Corner, which changes to Special (Not in service) after Hyde Park Corner. Though trains ex Rayners Lane may be shown as going to Arnos Grove.

With no service "east" of King's Cross, I am amazed that the service pattern actually retained an Uxbridge service (usually this is the first to go out of the window during engineering work - and often during normal times, too ;D ;D).
5 mins to King's Cross (reverse) 10 mins Heathrow T5 and Rayners Lane 20 mins Uxbridge
Also, 10 mins Heathrow T4 service, "but" eastbound T4 to Northfields (reverse), run through depot, out Boston Manor end and pick up westbound passengers Osterley onwards) to T4.

What is it that they're doing this weekend? I assume it's something at Finsbury Park as the northern part of the Victoria line is closed too (if so how do they get the trains to and from Northuberland Park depot?)

Yep. It's points replacement at Finsbury Park. Picc suspended east of King's Cross. Cockfosters depot and Arnos Grove sidings not available for whole weekend.
Limited Victoria Line service south from Highbury, with the trains required 'outstabled' with no access to and from Northumberland Park depot.

How come they aren't running Cockfosters to Arnos or Wood Green like they have in the past?
Is 'outstabling' just leaving the trains on the line (in stations) overnight?

T4 has taken the hit when operating with a reduced amount of trains/train operators available in recent years
I can think of a number of timetables over the last 12 months or so ...
The Picc overnight NYE/NYD service last year (and again this year) had a reduced T4 (think it was 3tph instead of 6 for certain periods)
TTN 43/10 this year - enhanced Uxbridge branch resulted in alternate T4 pulling out at Northfields, therefore a 3 tph T4
Being a regular traveller on the Picc, I do tend to notice T4 trains in general tend to have more free seats when compared to a T123/5 - always more of a wedge out!

If you did miss it Londonstuff, I believe this operation is planned to be repeated some time in March/April 2011 Took a trip up to KXSP via the Circle line - on foot! Just over seven miles in an hour, took a little detour after getting lost around Moorgate and ended up going via Old Street and the Angel. Quite a nice little run tbh, very warm, and good practice for the Seville marathon in February ;D Stepping back obviously in operation with about 3 spare drivers at the headwall going back west. Was expecting to see the route indicator point to the right, only realising afterwards that that would take you towards the Northern line. At the eastbound end of the platform, there was a gentle reminder to drivers that they couldn't go any further

There was stepping back of two train operators. The stop signal that you saw is only for going west towards Russell Square. There is a shunt signal provided to get to the "loop" and the Northern.

How come they aren't running Cockfosters to Arnos or Wood Green like they have in the past? I don't know the Picc that well, but it could be down to the protection arrangements required or the way in which the traction current sections are arranged. Another possibility could be that other work is taking place at the east end of the line and is taking advantage of the main possession at Finsbury Park. Of course it could be another reason entirely Is 'outstabling' just leaving the trains on the line (in stations) overnight? In simple terms, yes. That is part of the protection arrangements for a possession.

Didn't like the way the Pic Circus DMIs were displaying "Piccadilly Line is subject to delays" or something along those lines all the time. Not a nice customer image as it's a part-suspension.

Yep. It's points replacement at Finsbury Park. I would guess the Picc Line side (as we don't have any Victoria Line P&C works at the moment). 3s or 10s?

Didn't like the way the Pic Circus DMIs were displaying "Piccadilly Line is subject to delays" or something along those lines all the time. Not a nice customer image as it's a part-suspension. There has been a push to point out that there is a more reduced service and extended journey times from Covent Garden to Kings Cross. There was a two page document written by someone who appears to have nothing better to do full of patronising advice to service control.
