I am aware that the Victoria Line is currently operating a TTN (timetable notice) that was brought in for 2009 stock training, This effectively reduced the off peak service to 26 trains, whilst maintaining 37 trains for peak service. A couple of questions:
1. Why was it necessary to reduce the off peak service?
2. Is there a system to the train numbering, or is it done in order of depot start up?
3. When is this TTN due to end, and will the previous timetable be reinstated?

1. Why was it necessary to reduce the off peak service? Pass. Is this the horrible phrase of 'performance pollution' raising its head again? Service recovery yadayada..... Apparently the official explanation in the preamble is 'to faciliate T/Op training'. 2. Is there a system to the train numbering, or is it done in order of depot start up? I really shouldn't answer this, as it is delaying writing up something on Northern Circle weekend Districts..... Howsoever:Yup. Fairly straightforward. 2xx is the standard Vic numbering 21x and upwards 'til the next exception are yer bog standard Northumberland Park - Northumberland Park (eventually) trains. 20x means starting/ stabling away from Northumberland Park on weekdays 24x are awayday weekend stablers: 1/2 Brixton; 3 Victoria; 5/6 Walthamstow. Note that 204 is free for a possible second start/finish at Victoria on weekdays and 244 for a second Victoria stabler at weekends. 247 is Mr. Changeover. There's no 25xs - 26x is the spare usually post-peak until 0030ish. I have a suspicion that I've seen 26x used as the spare for a while, but I'd have to look back through the pile (I might be getting Picc. numbering confused, when the harmonisation occurred during the early days of the Vicky... Ho Hum) 27x are the not necessarily whole line paths off peak for a quick trundle - they have the same weekday ∇ at Brixton as everything else 0702 - 1949 so obviously the aim is to get as much operator familiarity as possible. 74x are test paths with certain ones running as a jumbo jet [1] that are empty both ways Northumberland Park - Seven Sisters. Startups are cumulative (ie +1 in a programme machine stylee), but some of the 24xs at weekends are non-cumulative. I suspect the compiler back-formed the numbering from the stabling time which is why the outstablers start up [...]245[...]241[...]242[...]246[...] on Sats and [...]246[...]242[...]245[...]241[...] on Suns. [1]I suspect that might be a TTO joke. 3. When is this TTN due to end, and will the previous timetable be reinstated? Pass. I wonder if the running times will be revised TBH. However, as I've not yet travelled on the new stock I've not had chance to get my stopwatch out.... <sigh> Does that help?

Cheers for the detailed reply - very helpful and informative as always!
In respect of the new stock, it is considerably quicker then the 67 stock (when it isn't broken down!), so I reckon they may reduce running times. Or will they just do what the current trend seems to be and use it as service recovery time? Who knows!

Well, now I've upgraded my 'phone I'll be using that, editing the lap times to station names and then occasionally popping up onto the surface to email the logs from my phone to my 'pooter. Isn't technology a wonderful thing?

The main Vic Line WTT (No.32) is expected to be back in from 3/10/10.

One thing I've noticed particularly is the time taken from the front of the train entering the station to the train coming to rest. It's surprisingly consistent most of the time, working out at 17-17.5 seconds for 67 stock and 13 seconds for 09 stock. Generally the station-to-station running times are around 8-10% less with 09 stock.

I'd be interested to know if the platform re-occupation times at Brixton have improved (would have to be a consecutive departing and arriving 09 stock)? It was consistently 96 seconds.
