Does anyone have or know where to get a list of underground stations which can only be accessed by lifts.
Thanks Karl

Surely the pedantic answer is "none at all" as they all have emergency stairs as well?

But you can't use the emergency stairs in normal running hours unless there's an emergency can you?

I use the stairs at a number of Bakerloo stations when going down to catch a train.

I've not seen anywhere that says you can't use them outside of an emergency...Covent Garden's are used all the time! Some / all the stations will have a discouraging sign saying XXX number of stairs though.

Can't say I'd fancy using the stairs at Covent Garden!

I'd use the ones at Covent Garden in preference to the ones at Highgate!

While working at Regents Park (ticket office) I would often run down the stairs to get to Baker Street (canteen) as quickly as possible for a little grub. No affordable eating places in that area.

Thanks for that everyone, handy if I can use the stairs all the time. Thought It would be lime merseyrail which don't let you use them at all generally.

At Chalk Farm, more people tend to use the stairs more than the lifts because the staircase is so short, you are allowed to use them there if it's not an emergency.

Can't say I'd fancy using the stairs at Covent Garden! I'd been held up somewhere on the tube when I was going to the Royal Opera House once but still just about had enough time to get there. On exiting Covent Garden however, the lifts all decided to go into a simultaneous spasm. The rule at the ROH is to basically be in your seat before the start or watch the entire thing on a plasma TV somewhere in the building having paid bucketloads for your seat. With this thought in mind, I sprinted up those 191 (I think) steps quicker than I'm ever likely to do again, ran through the piazza and in with about 40 seconds to spare. Funny what limits motivation can push you to

Every so often, I walk up the steps at Covent Garden - and regret it almost every time!
(Admittedly, walking up 193 steps in the middle of July, wearing two fleeces and a dust-coat, and carrying a heavy bag, is not a sensible strategy).

I used the stairs at Goodge Street going up when coming straight from the airport with lots of bags - totally missed the lift sign.

For some reason, I've never used the stairs at Covent Garden, perhaps I might try next time I'm down. Armed with ten inhalers and an oxygen mask and cylinder.

Thought It would be like Merseyrail which don't let you use them at all generally. Oh you can use them, the trick is just finding them! At some stations using the lift means you competely bypass the ticket barrier

At some (Merseyrail) stations using the lift means you competely bypass the ticket barrier This used to be the case at places like Gloucester Road, where the tickets were collected by the lift operator. From time to time an inspector would be stationed at the top of the steps to catch people out. The other trick I heard of people doing was using the OSI at Gloucester Road to save a fare. Travelling home from Central London, "changing trains" at Gloucester Road, but going to an Albert Hall concert in between!

oyster Out of Station Interchange. Well, it wasn't Oyster in those days, but you could keep your ticket when changing District to Picadilly, which involved going through the barriers and then showing your ticket to the liftman - or vice versa
