What a lovely sound the Atchison Topeka & The Santa Fe makes when you say it...or sing it as:
Can anyone suggest a British railway with a suitable name to have a song written about it - or how about the least likely candidate?
BTW this film clip is amazing: no digital effects, everything achieved by human beings, some really incredible crane shots, and can you imagine the loudhailer (Stay behind the Yellow Line) men of Forest Hill going berserk at the final sequence? (The sound is out of sync because of modern digital encoding and decoding: it is not thought to be important enough. Mutter mutter curse swear).

OK, it's a poem, but you can't forget the Night Mail part 1, part 2, part 3. If you can't face the full version - try the lego and plasticine one: clickyLest we forget that Jimmy Boyd was inspired by WH Auden (writer of the poem 'The Night Mail' - and JICB's prep master for English) - look at what that early reading of the poem achieved. (sincere apologies for the incursion into steam territory, and the allusion towards the narrow gauge - actually, I make no apologies, after all the District would have been far less than the 'fish and parcels line' if it were not for the LMS!!)

The Underground does alright.
Going Underground by the Jam who must have written Down In The Tube Station At Midnight after they went underground.
There was a song called Finchley Central.
Metropolitan and Circle line poetry a-plenty.

We've had a thread or two on tube songs in the past. Ages ago I also used "have appeared in songs" as the link for one of the quizes - from memory of researching the possible featured stations, the Northern Line seems to be featured disproportionately often!

It would take a musical genius to write a song which fitted the East & West India Docks & Birmingham Junction Railway into its lyrics. Or even the Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway.

If you have Spotify, you can search virtually any tube station and get a hit.
Currently listening to Camden Town.

I am no good at lyric writing but I think the words 'East & West India Docks & Birmingham Junction Railway' could be sung to the first line of 'Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey' without too much difficulty and the first line of 'Bonnie Dundee' is about right for 'Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway'.

........ the words 'East & West India Docks & Birmingham Junction Railway' could be sung to the first line of 'Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey' . "Mersey Docks & Harbour Board" scans better!
