He originally stated that he left LUL to spend some time with his family in America. The Standard articale quotes that he regrets leaving the post. I believe the general feeling in the company was that he wanted to leave before the axe fell with the looming job cuts, (which we all knew were proposed in some way or another) - which suggests why he isn't returning to London Underground, as they haven't happened yet - (although, of course, thats not to say that if it hadn't been proposed he would have been back).

As the original poster I don't know true the ES's sources are, but if true I suppose this could swing ToT's reputation one way or other to the extreme.
Take over at TL and bend them to TFL's will; or "go native" and defend their reponse/excuses (delete as...).
