Yeh, as one who is on the bus and taxi operators list for Kent and East sussex, I had over 487, yes, 487, emails from East Sussex County Council by 0730 advising of school closures! None at all from Kent. I assume the KCC staff were all snowed in.
No wonder our kids grow up learning very little. a bit of snow like this does not prevent the rest of Europe educating its children.
I hear on this evening's News South East that Eurotunnel is experienceing problems and is running a reduced service because of heavy snow in Calais. According to the reports, it is impossible to keep the loading platforms clear of snow, and all motorways out of Calais are ice-bound.
There is virtually no snow on the Romney Marsh!

No wonder our kids grow up learning very little. a bit of snow like this does not prevent the rest of Europe educating its children. And it's not normally because the kids can't get to school. My kids school was shut today. The large majority of pupils are within walking distance (they don't always walk because they are made of sugar of course ) The main reason it remained closed was because the teachers - with their smart 4x4 cars, with this, that and the other, couldn't make the journey. Admittedly we did get a good 8-10 inches of snow here in North Herts. It seems the only place able to get its act together was the large Tesco. Even cleared the car park (but very few cars were there as most of the people who owned 4x4 wotsits didn't know how to drive them in snow ;D.)

because the teachers - with their smart 4x4 cars,..... Blimey! what are they paying your teachers over there? Most of ours can only afford 10 year old Peugeots etc. And in rural areas most teachers have to live well away from their schools due to house prices. So not much chance of walking either. Maybe it's different around the metropolis.

I don't live anywhere near a metropolis - I am over 40 miles from London. And I never said the teachers had brought the 4x4s outright ;D Whichever the case, there are some who do have them. Mind you there are some mums who also have smarter cars than I could ever afford, who park on the yellow lines to drop their little darlings off before rushing home to Jeremy Kyle. No I don't have any evidence of this. It's just an unsubstantiated hunch ;D

I don't think we are out of the woods yet, because the most recent BBC weather for London was showing snow for tonight and Monday, with sleet/possibly snow for tomorrow and Tuesday, but clearing up for Wednesday.
Looks like going into London in the week could be interesting! ;D

As an LU employee i'm sorry to all the hack journalists who couldn't write sensationalist stories about us.

I just wanted to say my most sincere congratulations to London Underground for your performance so far in the ice and cold. I traveled yesterday and today via a few different routes, no problems at all on any journey. Peak tubes were so quiet, spare seats. All the staff were behaving lovely to the public. It can't be nice for the staff who have to start at the crack of dawn in the freezing cold but your all doing a mighty fine job I must say. Massive improvement over last years snowy suspensions.
95TS sounded a bit funny in the open, but thats probably normal when the conductor rails are iced over? I remember hearing the same noises last year on the SET Class 375s.
Now, if only the streets, councils and some of the NR operators could pick up the slack a bit we would have London running fine. Gold command?? No no no, we need grit on the roads, not gold! that's too expensive.
Keep up the good work! One commuter appreciates it a lot!
