As the original thread is now locked, I thought mention this here.
Tickets for the Upminster - Ealing Broadway journey with the 1938 stock are now on sale on the ltmuseum website (http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/whatson/121.aspx), with a 19:45 departure from Upminster, a photo-stop (in the dark) at Whitechapel from 20:35 - 20:48 and a reversal at High Street Kensington platform 2 (which is fairly unusual I think). Arrival at Ealing Broadway is 22:02.

and a reversal at High Street Kensington Won't this mess up the A and D ends (if it goes Gloucester Rd-HSK-ECT, that is)

I have seen this announced on RUKF...I wondered if the Museum wanted to turn the train to even out tyres, etc.? or ready to go on the Northern from the Picc in due course? I mention that as trains transferred back from the Northern had to be turned via HSK.

IIRC it's being turned as it is currently in the wrong direction due to going round the Kennington loop on the Northern line railtour. (info thanks to solidbond)

Ok forgive me if I'm missing something, but why would the '38 have to be the 'right' way round. It's not going to be coupling with other units is it? Which is AFAIK the reason for A and D designations.

I do believe that the LT Museum want the 38TS the right way round as it would have been as if in regular passenger service.
I remember the reversing move, at High Street Ken., being done on a Cravens Heritage Trains Railtour on 30th April 2000. Then it was to reverse to make a journey down to Putney Bridge for a lunch break.Lets hope it works out OK on Friday evening.

I realise this comment may be superfluous here, but with regard to recent events and in relation to the trip on the 4th September, I believe that there will not be a relaxation of the rules forbidding flash photography when the 38TS arrives at Whitechaple for the photo opportunity.

To be fair, it is mainly only those people with normal, as opposed to digital cameras, who may even need to use flash!

Photos of last night's trip have been uploaded hereI changed my ISO setting up to 1600 so some images are more grainy than I'd like, however a higher ISO settings does reduce blur in lower light Feel free to peruse other recent events on the main section of the site (Jubilee 38ts tour & last weeks Upminster Open Day) As always thank you to all who gave their time to arrange the trip and those who were on board - I met some good people this evening If only those one or two characters would learn to stop using flash

I just wonder who organised for the two priests to travel on that particular evening. We were assured of a safe and successful journey with a celestial blessing to help us along. Does anybody know which order they were from?

Does anybody know which order they were from? The only religion I can possibly think of whose holy day is anything close to Friday is Judaism, whose holy day is of course Saturdays. There were plans to build a super church in Rainham (Essex) thrown out this week, but surely if they were anything to do with that, they would have travelled back by normal services? Was this supposed to be a sort of stunt being pulled by the lite or the standard? They think the District line is now so dangerous that they jokingly need to send priests on trains to ensure a safe journey, or were they genuine priests? Overall a very unusual and peculiar occurance!

Well they had those, so called, "Guardian Angels" in New York (and for a few weeks in London!) so perhaps this is something different!

Judging by the style of their house cassock and being black with black facsia and 33 buttons; I'd say these were RC priests.
They look as if they are attending to wer1070's immortal soul in a couple of the pictures.
Clerics/Clerks in Holy Orders and an interest in railways go back along way - further back than Wilbert Awdry when he was the Rector of Elsworth with Knapwell and later the vicar of Emneth.

We were taught that Islam and Christianity were both on Sunday, but Judaism was on a Saturday.

About 10 minutes walk from Ealing Broadway is a Benedictine church and school. Is that where they were from?

Chris - your photo site is a welcome addition to my browser links.
Definitely Roman Catholic priests - possible remake of "The Exorcist" or maybe "Bless Me Father"? LOL

Quite possibly; couldn't swear to them being Benedictine as there is no black zucchetto - but there is what looks like black mozette, which could place them as Canons Regular of the Immaculate Conception. Oops, thread wander.

Just to add to the thread wonder, +2 for RC. Perhaps I am being biased, but thats not that usual an outfit to see 'about' nowadays. It certainly would seem more suited to a more traditional, old-rite approach. Wheres the birretta, I wonder?
Some wonderful pictures there. Seems like a good time was had by all!
