Network Rail has proposed a new £34bn high-speed railway line linking Scotland and London by 2030. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8221540.stmLondon terminal?: " A city centre location has been assumed for all terminals. For London, the terminal is assumed to have good tube connections, and to take advantage of good links with HS1, close to St Pancras. This assumption has a bearing on the costs (amount of tunnelling will vary) and demand forecasts if journey time is longer."

Ye Gods get the railways we have up to scratch and working efficiently before wasting £billions on another black hole.

We have. Finally, after nearly a decade of fall-out from the disastrous Railtrack experiment, the railways are now working really, really well - better than they ever have in the UK (if not quite up to Swiss standards... although on the other hand C2C achieved better punctuality than Swiss Railways for the last year!). So now it's time to invest in new capacity.
