Will it be put on display at either Covent Garden or Acton?

Its doubtful either. Most pundits seem to think it'll be cannabilised to serve for the cravens unit.

My understanding of the future use for the TRV, after it is replaced by the new AIT, is that it will be converted to be used as a new Weed Killing Train. Unfortunately 'Cravens' will not be able to scavenge it for spares.

That would be nice if it was a weedkiller train. Is the old one still going. I though it had been replaced by battery locos and a wagon.

I'm sure someone mentioned that the old weedkiller was awaiting decontamination before being scrapped. Anyone know if its still trackworthy?

The 1938 Tube Stock Weed Killer 2-car unit has been languishing in Ruislip depot for a few years in 'withdrawn' condition. Ironically it is stabled close to the Tunnel Cleaning Train which hasn't done much recently either! I do have a withdrawal date for L150+L151, but will have to 'dig' to find it.

Further to my note above, the WK was withdrawn in 2004 - around October.

Interesting to note the Yellow front - I wonder what the thinking was behind that..........hang on, penny drops that the engineering fleet is painted Yellow....
Anyway, slight change of subject: was that you at Kew Gardens lunchtime today 21146?

I wonder if the lack of a red or half-red, or all yellow, front, means it cannot run on Network Rail sections of the Underground (e.g. diverted to Richmond in an emergency)?

I am trying to wrack my brain about the amount of yellow required by NR. Long story about why I I have an interest (it was to do with D200) but a quick check has shown that one end of Hastings unit 1001 has the original small panel. I seem to recall that NR can grant derivations. I would have thought that there was enough yellow to qualify.

I would agree, there is enough yellow for it to use NR.

Nice pictures of the new TRT. The last time I saw that 72TS was at the same depot in its grey guise in Feb 2006 (remember when it stalled at West Ken,IIRC) How long is the new TRT going to be at Lillie Bridge for?

The blue and gold looks very impressive.

Please note that someone from Tube Lines objected to me showing photos of the new AIT on-line. Whilst photos of the train are in the public domain (see this week's Railway Herald), I have nevertheless removed the links to avoid any unpleasantness to either "DD" or indeed myself. Plenty of time to see it in action on the road I'm sure.

I have to say that Tubelines have done an excellent job externally and deserve credit. They can be proud to show off their much-lauded (on websites, with impressions) train.

I wonder why they feel a sense of privacy is appropriate; waiting for the whole thing to be officially launched perhaps?

The new unit will have an official 'launch' and I believe Tube Lines want it kept under wraps until then, which is understandable. Obviously if anyone caught one of the cars in the street on a low-loader by camera that's one thing, but depot views are another matter. Fair point.

Bump!
The AIT is now on 1 road at Northfields Depot, presumably undergoing commissioning of some sort?

I believe it went there late Friday night between Schoma diesels, or that was one plan.
