I had a trip on a dennis dart (Plaxton Pointer body) in swansea a few months back and it kept stalling everytime it stoped ( Even though it had a uto gear box) eventually managed to get the the bottom of the hill and conked out and had to be towed back to depot. It was back on the road 2 days later and did the same thing.
i traveled on it about 2/3 weeks agao from Pennard to Swansea and i feel so sorry for the driver as the alarm in the cab kept going off telling him to check the hanbrake even though it was clearly off and he was actually moving plus the bus had a collent problem.
I have driven a older step entrance dart and found them to be brilliant

I think one of ours (33848) has died as it's not been seen for ages and ages. I caught the other (33849) home today, and the problems are still there, it drops into third, immediately dropping back into second abruptly, and screams back into third.
The retarder is worse than ever, and as soon as the brake pedal is touched, it violently drops down a gear.
Heap of utter c%^& and I haven't mentioned it previously, it does 0-20 in about an hour, and 20-30 when it can be bothered.

I had one of these beasts for five long hours this morning.
The engine noise is totally different trying to accelerate slowly, and the gears work differently, but it takes forever to do anything. Pedal down, and it'll take off, but screams through the gears, dropping up and down really randomly.
The retarder is a nightmare completely, and screams into action as well (it's not the engine you are hearing) followed by the engine low revving (possibly idling) and violently dropping a gear with a huge jolt. The only way I found around that was to flick the retarder off and use brake only, which I wouldn't recommend, but it does give for smooth braking, and less noise.
I'd still rather have a proper SLF Dennis Dart, it'll be a sad day when those eventually get scrapped. (33201-222 in our area for those that know the fleet numbers)

Can't say I've ever driven a step entry Dart, but the SLF versions are supreme.
