I hear that sometime in June I believe, engineering works at Acton will suspend all through services, leading to a shuttle. There are no facilities to reverse E to W at Eal Com so am I correct in assuming it will be via the District Line depot??

They might be able to reverse in Acton sidings, providing that they leave one platform road open.

As a guess I suspect the trains will be piloted into Ealing Common Depot 19rd or 20rd

The block is District between West Kensington and Richmond / Ealing Common and Piccadilly between Hammersmith and Northfields / Ealing Common. Result should be 2 shuttles at Eailing Common Piccadilly to Rayners Lane and District to Ealing Broadway also Piccadilly at Northfields to Heathrow.
Correction - Planned Closures - states above and journey planner states District block between West Kensington and Richmond / Ealing Common Broadway. Sounds more likely then a two stop shuttle to Ealing Broadway.

On the eastern part of the picc, couldn't a Barons Court-Cockfosters service operate?

Last time there was a closure like that, I was on the Piccadilly, but my train terminated at Green Park, and presumably reversed at Down Street.

12 tph to Hammersmith and 3 tph to Green Park/Down Street Yeah that sounds more correct - They had stepping back of train operators at Hammersmith.

[quote I can see the headlines - District train routed on to Heathrow Branch... [/quote] Not going to happen, I'm afraid! There is a set of mercury glass tubes at South Ealing, which will be broken by any out of gauge vehicle, such as the D stock!

There is no surface stock detector at South Ealing; surface stock trains (including D stock) are permitted to run as far as Northfields depot.

Not going to happen, I'm afraid! There is a set of mercury glass tubes at South Ealing, which will be broken by any out of gauge vehicle, such as the D stock! (in best pantomime tradition) Oh No they're not! Catch a train westwards from Hounslow Central; keep your eyes peeled after about ½km (just past WT. 1 A on the other road). Better still, watch the Video 125 DVD on the Picc. AIUI the surface stock structure guage is maintained as far as Hounslow Central, allowing a reversal there, if something really goes awry. Chanelling Colin: The "tubes" (not mercury any more apparently - Health & Safety and all that?) are between Hammersmith and Barons Court on the EB Picc, North end of Finchley Road SB Jubilee platform, and WB between Hounslow Central and Hounslow West. The one at the north end of the SB platform at East Finchley was removed in the 1970s and it was suggested (although not confirmed) that the bitsfrom this went to make the Hounslow site.

The answer to the question is reversing via Ealing Common depot, presumably using District I/Os to pilot Piccs.

The answer to the question is reversing via Ealing Common depot, presumably using District I/Os to pilot Piccs. There is no release booked for District I/Os to do this. However any District driver can act as a Pilot. With not much else to do I'd guess Acton Town drivers will have duties that book them to perform the function with each specified Piccadilly Line train.
