As I'm making a model of the 1960 stock I need to know about the cab doors. The drivers side doors appeared to be present on delivery but were removed later? When was this? ATO conversion I would guess?

When 60TS was delivered it was going to be the Central Line replacement stock for the Standard Stock and to all intents and purposes was a tube version of A Stock(same builder)due to several fatal fires on Standard Stock the replacement was speeded up so an extension of 59TS(62TS )was ordered. When it was decided to use the Hainault loop for ATO trials 60 TS was ideal for the pupose,3900/02/04/06/08 being converted,3910 was withdrawn and used as a rheo brake test train and at the moment is the TRC.

Fires on Standard Stock? No doubt due to overheating traction motors?

No,apparently the problem was a breakdown of insulation on the receptacle boxes.

Fatal? Didn't realise it was that bad. Presumably when the 4 car standard is eventually preserved it will use a different material.

I believe one of these resulted in a fatality - Holland Park if I recall.

Holland Park was 28 July 1958 and one passenger died in hospital. Redbridge was 11 August 1960 and there were no deaths. Both fires were due to damaged shed receptacles following trains leaving the sheds with a lead in. The receptacles on pre-38 trains were mounted under the front headstock and were thus very susceptable to ingress of dust.

That sounds pretty bad, what a terrible way to die. Presumably arcing set flamable material on fire?
On the subject of ATO and the 1960ts, if the funds were available, would CHT want to fit compatible central/other underground line ATO equpiment on their unit?

The 60TS is stabled at Northfields. Recent work includes repair of cracks in the Underframe and a complete overhaul of the braking system, fitting of component brake system parts are still to be undertaken.
I've often wondered what will happen to LUM and Cravens stock once ATO/ATP has been introduced over the entire network, how long have we got left to run conventional trains?
CHT have always been responsive to change and challenges, believe me there were more than a few challenges to overcome in the early days, a lot more in the present and the future.
I see no reason why ATP equipment couldn't be installed on the train but as always the money has to come from somewhere.
If anyone wants a copy of the 60ts Maintenance Policy (revised 2005) drop me a PM email address removed by MRFS
