Not that having a fancy, clever, electronic system works well anyway, as I got on an Aldgate train at Uxbridge that until just before Hillingdon Station was 'Not in Service' according to all the displays.

I'm not going to argue all your points (as some bits I agree with and some bits I partially agree with) but I'd like to add the following in favour of LED/DMI/whatever they are... One benefit of the new trains and the technology is now each car has at least one LED/DMI showing what the destination of the train is, and what line it's running on (useful on the Baker Street - Aldgate (East) - Edgware Road sections). Each car also has them inside the train, where blinds wouldn't be suitable in the slightest, so that's also quite good. One bit I am going to pick a hole in though is: (c) easier to replace for new/different services Imagine the situation, as it is now, that LU have just bought new trains, and they've bought them with blinds... there's now a new destination to be added to the blinds (let's say, for argument's sake, Great Missenden)... How do you go about adding this to all the trains? Well, you'd have to buy 58 new blinds, and fit them... as opposed to adding a new destination to the computer and uploading that to all the trains. Assuming that TFL have bought the system correctly, I'd have thought that would have been quicker. This is even more so when (I believe) all the S8s and S7s have the same software and destination possibilities, so it would be more like 190+ trains you'd have to buy new blinds for...

graeme186: I had something with train 21019 (I think) it was yesterday, where at Hillingdon, all the doors open (as expected) but the leading car having the 'Door Not In Use' lights illuminated while the doors were open.

I think showing a bit of personality has to be better than just doing the monotone PA announcements, and as a customer, I tend to prefer that - regardless of what the men in suits think...
Also, if there's something being announced, having the personality means that people might actually be more inclined to listen to the announcement, rather than just switching off to the monotone, continuous voice(s) or the digitised ones that you get at the likes of Kings Cross - where it doesn't flow like a voice etc.
As the service is provided for the public/customer/passenger/sardine ( ;D ;D ) it would be more beneficial to do surveys of the customers to see what they want...

Anyone know what the large Dark Red / Maroon car sitting outside Ruislip Depot at times is? It looks like it's from an old stock, but which one?
(I don't know if it's there today... I only tend to pass once a month, and it was definitely there at the beginning of this month!)

Well, that reminds me not to try and get the Met Line home again in the evenings... Got to Baker Street tonight on the 2357 Amersham service from Kings Cross, and went in to the shop on Platform 1/2... train was still there. A short while later, there was a LONG blast on a train whistle, and still it sat there. Got on the Uxbridge service on Platform 1 (A-Stock) where the driver made an announcement (no idea what he said, but we think we heard 'passenger action'). Train proceeded to leave, eventually - after Amersham service left. Got to Wembley Park, and train 404 (5062) was taken out of service apparently due to "faulty" doors. Lots of people seemed a bit annoyed at that... I almost suspect that it was taken out of service due to someone holding doors open. Two things from a logistical perspective surprised me during this though: 1) Train on Platform 2 at WPK being taken out of service, which could have been replaced by the NIS train on Platform 1 2) The train going out of service left heading towards HOTH. I assume (and hope) it ended up in the sidings (couldn't see as it was dark) but a small part of me did wonder if it was going to run to Preston Road and then re-enter service Anyone any ideas what these incidents were and whether the "faulty" doors were really actually faulty?

Even the Bakerloo Line lady T/Op was borderline, do ordinary travellers or even tourists want to hear her homespun wisdom? My housemate is probably, to all intents and purposes an 'ordinary traveller' and having the more personal touch to the announcements means that he actually listened to them...

I think tonight's episode was quite interesting; I did wonder why they blurred ******* as well (as you could tell that's where it was from the top of the station anyway... I did wonder whether one of the controllers was you, MetControl I think the lady Bakerloo line driver is fantastic - I've been on a train once that was driven by her and her comments and PAs just cheered us up... especially as we were a bit annoyed at the time thinking we were going to miss our connection at Charing Cross. Modified for legal reasons - the case is ongoing and we don't want you arrested for contempt of court, which is the reason the name was obliterated (granted not too successfully at times)

As I said in one of the other threads, both my housemate and I enjoyed the program, and like londonstuff, thought the comments from the cleaner were spot on!
There were some amusing bits in it as well... particularly the bit at Tower Hill where the station staff recommended they get the train on the other platform as it was leaving first, and the husband got on but not the wife.

I went to Princes Risborough this evening, but no train came through at the scheduled time... Granted, I only went as I read a post saying it was running... only on checking when I got home did I realise that it was dated Feb 1st.
