This isn't new though. DLR have been running this 5 minute off-peak frequency between Beckton and Canning Town since October 2006.

Is the branch (unlike Amersham) much busier in the off peak?

One theory: The "natural frequency" of the branch is considered to be every 5 minutes, and the reductions in the peaks are due to operational issues (staff/units needed elsewhere, reversing capacity at Canning Town, needed for Woolwich services, etc) Alternate theory: The shuttles are being used to run up mileage on the new trains where they can't do much harm. Yep, when Tower Gateway opens up and Beckton service can run back as normal. They've also got to wait for the northwest corner of Delta Junction to be grade separated again, which I'm not sure of the timescale for completion of. If Tower Gateway re-opens first it may be that we go back to last year's temporary timetable that had Tower Gateway trains serving the City Airport branch.

Sorry to be going off topic but here is a video I took yesterday from LCA to WA. You can hear the pilot when he gets on at KGV talking about intervention points and stuff.

A query: which zone is Woolwich Arsenal DLR in?
The TfL zones map shows WA NR as being zone 4, but doesn't show the DLR extension; nor does the DLR diagram (on the TfL wbsite - which shows zones) include WA.

yeah, i'm going to be there on monday but not until 11. I suspect the official opening will be over by then. The offical openning is at 0930 with questions afterward so yes I'd say its going to be over by then. As for going back to normal, its won't stay that way with Bank closing for a few weeks. Im curious how busy Tower Gateway is going to be.

BBC London news had a bit on it last night - they showed Ken performing an opening because, he said, Boris couldn't be bothered to turn up on a day when plenty of people would be there to celebrate (or something to that effect).
