Hi all,
Ive noticed that sometimes, trains come in to Bank at Platform 9 (which I think is the Shadwell bound platform) When the trains come in, the driver does the horn quite loudly
Does anyone know why they sometimes come in to P9??
Thanks, Uzair

I heard that trains can do that if they are running late, so they don't have to use the reversing siding.

Yep, also used when there's a defective train in P10 or the headshunt. Always good fun when it happens in the morning peak!

A bit of common sense would have probably answered your own question!
It is used when trains are running late, as it means that they don't need to run through the arrival platform and headshunt, thus saving around 2.5mins. Or, as Jimbo said, there is a failed train in platform 10 or headshunt.

A bit of common sense would have probably answered your own question! Trouble is, people using their "common sense" has led to all sorts of problems both on and off the forum (and the railways in general!). Far better to ask and get a straight answer.

Thanks, Uzair I have had the experience once after there was someone taken ill at Bank and the inbound platform was "blocked". They sound the horn loudly because people on Platform 10 are used to trains coming in from the left and may not be aware of a train coming in from the right. If trains have been coming in Platform 10 today is because Bank was closed in this morning's rush hour "due to equipment failure". So it's been done probably to minimise delays

I get the distinct impression that all PSAs are told to sound their horn when doing a WDM - certainly this is the case at Bank (as per the OP), and also when there was single line working between Crossharbour <> Lewisham in the summer.
