Hello, I'm new to this forum and I don't know if anyone here can help me, or if I'm posting this in the wrong place, so sorry if I'm timewasting.
I have a question as I'm really not very savvy with the tube map.
This coming Saturday (October 4th) I will be going to a concert in Brixton, however I have been informed that the Victoria Line will be closed on that night. I usually take the Victoria Line to Brixton as I don't know of any other way to get there.
My question is: Can anybody help me find a way from London Victoria to Brixton on the tube? The quickest and least confusing routes are preferable!!
My friend who I'll be going with has suggested going to Stockwell and then walking to Brixton, is this doable? How would I get to Stockwell?
Thanks in advance for any help, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi, thanks very much for the link I'll consider it and discuss it with my friend, but he seems to think that meeting at Stockwell and walking it will be easier? (Especially as I dislike buses and get very panicked when I'm not completely certain of where I'm going, silly I know) Would you be able to help me find a route to Stockwell?

Ok then, after Tubeboy's comment I'd suggest you get to Victoria by whatever means possible, and then catch a train from Victoria mainline to Brixton . Journey time of 7 minutes.
Any further details you can find on streetmap.

I would also suggest Brixton by Southeastern trains from Victoria: there are numerous ones and headed it seems to Orpington.
By the way, welcome to DD's Forum.

Laura, I was just having a giggle, no harm meant.
Try the tfl website or their helpdesk on 0207 222 1234.
The mainline train seems the best option, as you dont like the buses. Streetmap will show you the route from Stockwell-Brixton by road.
Welcome to the forum.

The mainline train seems like the best option, I agree, and it's pretty cheap which is good for a poor student like myself I just need to figure out where the train goes from at Victoria :S

As it's Southeastern, it'll almost certainly leave from the set of platforms on the left hand side (numbered 1-8) as you come up the steps from the tube station. You'll have to check the departures board to find out exactly which platform. Trains are every 15 minutes before 8pm and every 30 minutes afterwards. Last one back is at 23:59. See this page for exact times.

meeting at Stockwell and walking it will be easier? According to the Google map, Stockwell and Brixton are ~1.3 km (0.8 miles) apart. As for me, I won't mind walking that much, but only weather permitting .

(Especially as I dislike buses and get very panicked when I'm not completely certain of where I'm going, silly I know) Replacement buses generally *only* call at the affected stations; you would come out of Stockwell station, and there will be staff on hand to get you onto a bus that will probably have a card with the words "Stations To Brixton" in the window, and the only place it'll call after Stockwell should be Brixton. In other words, there's not much to worry about when it comes to getting off at the right stop. (Come to that, even if you were to go the 345 route, a lot of newer buses in London now have audio/visual announcements about which stop is coming up next - something I personally have found incredibly useful when I'm in areas I don't know! You can't rely on your bus having it, though.. not all are equipped with it and even when they are, it may not be working.)

Think I'll take the mainline train into Brixton. Seems like the safest option.
Does it stop at the same station in Brixton that the tube stops at? Sorry I'm such an idiot I really appreciate your help.

I believe the mainline and tube stations are about 100m apart.

This Google satellite view of the area shows that the entrance to the tube is on Brixton Road (just left of the underground symbol). The rail symbol isn't quite right - from what I remember (and I've only been there once) you go down the stairs from the rail station and you are on Atlantic Road approximately where the B223 label is. If you walk straight ahead to the junction, you are about 50 metres north of the tube station entrance.

Thanks.
As a precaution, or as a plan B, can anyone tell me how to get to Stockwell from Victoria?

By the tube: Head east on the Circle / District to Embankment, and get a Northern line train south, and change at Kennington (it will terminate there), onto a Northern line train which terminates at Morden. There's signs at Kennington telling you which platforms for which destinations As for the buses, not my area of expertise, I'm afraid...

According to the journey planner, the number 2 bus (towards Marylebone) goes direct from Stockwell (stops A, Q, R, S and T) to Victoria, taking 22 minutes. See this pdf of bus stops in the Stockwell areaThis PDF timetable says the last bus is at 23:59 every day of the week. If you need to travel later than that there is route N2 towards Horseguards Parade, taking 11 minutes from stops A and R. PDF timetableedit: Whoops, just realised I got the direction wrong! Anyway, from Victoria you need the route 2 towards West Norwood Bus Garage (might just display "Norwood") from stop F. See This map (PDF)
