Trainee drives train into Ruislip sidings with no instruction from I/O.
Trainee drives train out of Ruislip sidings with no instruction from I/O, resuming normal line speed at the correct point.
I/O suddenly thinks to ask, “Have you done this move before?” I love this bit. Reminds of me being in a Piper PA28, doing flying training at Southampton with an Instructor I had not had before. I was doing a landing practice, and expected that the guy would say that he was taking over: no, he didn't so I just carried on and I landed it by myself. He asked “Have you done this before?” I said no, and he replied that it was pretty good and would have given me over 80%! It would have been nice to have been asked. I guess that he just thought I could, so I just got on with it. I hate landings though!. I am not sure I would be as nervous as heck at taking a train out from the siding as I would be concerned that I had the right signal, the points were set, etc. Yes, I have driven trains before! |

Gosh this thread had me with my heart in my mouth. On some forums I'm on, merely posting someone's name in the thread subject means the worst possible news (i.e. that that person has passed away). Given that we have an undergroundgal on this board...  |

I find, as a journo and writer, her blog well-written and a darn good read. DD, your text I have to say is especially so. ;D
