Hey folks, When we came into Lime St station on Monday, there was an old train on another platform, looked pretty cool - had a streamlined front end and although I didn't catch the name it had 'Republic of South Africa' written on the side. What was it, anyone know? (Cue argument between the 'rents about a) whether it was diesel or steam - I think the latter; and b) whether we had enough time to go and look at it - they decided not.) We could hear it blowing its whistle periodically all the way to the Metropolitan Cathedral! Cue 'rents going into Nostalgialand... ;D

Sometimes we get CLAN LINE down here, the unrebuilt Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' Pacific..we came across it one Saturday on the Test Valley southbound from Salisbury en route to Romsey and Southampton, whilst driving on the A36.
