From the other British UndergrounD. I quote: Fatal Accident on 7th February 1921 Min. of Transport Recommendation
64. All employees are notified that the tunnel passage between Car Sheds and Govan Cross Station is closed during traffic hours except for the purpose of carrying out necessary repairs, etc. Engineering Department employees going on or coming off duty must use the street to get to and from Govan Cross Station. The same applies to Traffic employees having occasion to go to Car Sheds. Rule 64, from the Glasgow Corporation Transport (underground section) Rulebook, 1961 edition. Obviously there was some form of error and somebody got squished in the tunnel - does anyone know what the circumstances were?

I recommend Circles Under the Clyde, by Ian Maclean, ISBN 1854141902, Capital Transport....
Conductor Thomas McCrae, used the tunnel as a short cut to Car Sheds after being releived at Govan Cross. The next train to leave Govan was not aware of this, and he was hit in the tunnel.

Are you aware of the Subway Challenge? Sure, glad to have helped. I have just finished reading said book, for about the third time... particularly amazing system it was in its early days...

Are you aware of the Subway Challenge? Indeed - I've done the other Circle Line pub crawl - starting and finishing at the Three Judges in Partick.

I see there is plans to redevelop the Partick Site. I say reopen Merkland Street - sounds much better!

Unfortunately, it [the book] is now out of print, but, should you wish, I'll keep my eyes open for copies in any bookshops.

I've got an earlier book from the mid-60s, called (unsurprisingly) 'The Glasgow Subway', can't remeber the author - I'll have a check when I get home.
The rule book in the OP is interesting as it contains a couple of detailed shots of the signal heads - they all had 'pigs ears' ;D

I'd quite like to see some excerpts from that book. I know that one is out of print too.
Another good book to get is called 'I Belong to Glasgow', sadly also out of print.
