With current platform extension at West India Quay - will the head of DLR train be pulling into WIQ while the tail will still be at Canary Wharf? ;D
I mean, the distance between the two stations was tiny even before the extensions...

I wondered about this too! I think there might just be an overlap, max 5-10' long, when the WIQ platforms are lengthened and three-car trains running.

lol we all see the silliness of WIQ. i don't get why they don't just extend the platform all the way to Canary wharf so that people can walk along to the WIQ exit if they want to.

Looking at Google Earth I make the north end of the two stations 160m apart. A three car train is 86.4m long. So with 90m-ish platforms after WIQ is extended south, the gap between the platforms would be 70m - less than one train length. It would make sense for them to put in a walkway so that passengers on the peak trains using the dive-under (which can't call at WIQ) can get back from CW. In the subway tunnels in central Chicago the platforms are continuous from station to station. |

As West India Quay platform 1 has been demolished, will the other platforms be renumbered?

a bit like this:    Shame the new Wood Lane won't have such an interesting feature. According to the TFL journey planner, it takes 9 minutes on foot from Canary Wharf! But 1 minute by DLR. |

Just remember that soon not all trains will be stopping at West india Quay. All trains from the city will bypass the station.
West India Quay does how ever serve a different part of the development as it does the north side where as Canary Wharf does the central part. When West India Quay was built there wasn't the bridge over the docks like there are now so there was more need for it. Although the station is still busy.

I don't really think stations like this are designed to be travelled between, what I mean is that they are purely for passengers getting on or off from somewhere further away, not simply going one stop in between. So I don't see the purpose of closing them.
