Up till now I have had an Adult Oyster with my Young Persons Discount on it, but now have a 16 plus Oyster which is cheaper, but need to transfer funds across from one to the other. It says I cannot do it online because it is 16 plus, and advises me to call the Oyster Helpline. Having a bad experience of the Helpline I was wondering if the same thing could be done at a LU Ticket office?

Its possible; I've had it done before, but for some reason its desperately frowned upon.

I'll go somewhere where its dead quiet and the person in the ticket office is begging for someone to come along to do something

Refunding a PAYG balance on an Oystercard shouldn't take too long. No paperwork. There is a limit, £5 I seem to remember. It's longer if you're handing back the Oyster card itself but only by about 2/3 mins.
Word of warning - if you've paid for the PAYG using "multiple tenders" i.e. by cash and by debit card, the system will throw a wobbly and the only thing the clerk can do is to enter a ZERO refund and the refund will be sent by Oyster customer services.
Probably better to go to a busier Z1/2 station, the clerks would be used to undertaking the procedure more than a clerk out in zone 6.

Went fine, all the bloke at the ticket office did was touch one oyster with the money on it, press a few buttons then touch the other one and hey presto - £13 transferred!
