Hi all, Apparently Poplar is already long enough to accommodate 3 car trains. But I was there today and it really did not look like it was long enough. This is the same as Canary Wharf. Is it me or are they already long enough?? Thanks Uzair

Poplar is long enough to take three car trains, the currently unused section is at the eastern end (furthest from the entrance), it is clearly visible from the eastern end of the currently used part (there are notices saying that trains will not stop beyond this sign) and from passing trains.

Bank, Canary Wharf, Poplar, Canning Town, Stratford and the City Airport branch have platforms long enough for three car trains, although platform equipment needs moving. Shadwell is nearly there, West India Quay has had a lot done, and most other stations have hoardings at least. Island Gardens, Cutty Sark and the Beckton branch aren't being done.

The first stage is Bank-Lewisham, the second is Poplar to Stratford and Poplar to Beckton. The King George V branch was already built for 3-car operation.

The phases have been merged and the whole system (less the Beckton branch) should switch to three car operation in early 2010. It may even be that Stratford-Lewisham switches first, as the work at Bank is the last on the list. Don't forget Langdon Park is long enough! Ah yes. Although I think the canopies need extending. They do end rather abrubtly.

I thought that Island Gardens is lone enough. Would it be possible to run 3 car trains between Canning Town and King George V at the moment, and run the Beckton trains to Bank?

No, since the stopping at Canning Town is due to the track layout at the junction being about to be demolished. It's probably also considered important to have direct trains to City Airport, whereas no one (relatively) uses the Beckton branch.
A quick google says Island Gardens is indeed long enough, and Heron Quays needs adding to the list also.

For some reason they are extending Shadwell before all the others. Island Gardens is long enough - I think And Cutty Sark will have Selective Door Opening

Mudchute is being extended, and it is also getting a third platform. Have they started rebuilding Tower Gateway yet?

I was on the DLR yesterday, and the DVA was still announcing to change at Poplar for stations towards Tower Gateway...
