I'm thinking B is Ladbroke Grove and C is Archway.
D is seemingly a joint LUL/BR station but nothing springs to mind for that. The sign is reminiscent of the top end of the Bakerloo but I don't recognise the houses in the background. Will take a punt at Gunnersbury.

The first three have been identified, but not the last one, nor the odd one out, so this one will stay open for the time being..... Station A: South Woodford - western end of footbridge [Chris M] Station B: Ladbroke Grove - eastbound platform [Chris M] Station C: Archway - emergency stairs from platform 1 [Chris M] Station D:

Slightly obvious so probably wrong, but is station C the odd one out cos all the other stations are above ground?!

South Woodford is the odd one out, as it [had] a level crossing?

Neither are correct.
Also, location D still needs identifying, which should assist finding the odd one out.

South Woodford and Latimer Road have both had steam main line services in the past... D looks like a Bakerloo or District West London station so... But I'm probably barking under completely the wrong tree!

But I'm probably barking under completely the wrong tree! I can't answer the steam bit, so you are not on the right lines there, however I can tell you it's not a Bakerloo station......

D = Kensington (Olympia) , although not a 'Wimbleware' station?

D = Kensington (Olympia) , although not a 'Wimbleware' station? Sorry, I was trying to put peoples minds in the area without giving too much away. Perhaps a bit misleading, but it was the idea of the sort of region (if that makes sense) However it's the right answer: Kensington (Olympia) - Station flag sign from the District Line platform [Chris M] *Click for larger version*

Ok, a recap of all four locations: A] South Woodford - west end of footbridge. B] Ladbroke Grove - eastbound platform C] Archway - emergency stairs from platform 1 D] Kensington (Olympia) - station flag sign from District Line platform *Click any picture for a larger version* So, we just need the odd one out, and the reason..... Clue: Look at the names......

Ok, let's think of possibilities, then: Kensington Olympia (as Addison Road) has been a through station, now a terminus; Archway (as Highgate) has been a terminus, now a through station; Ladbrook Grove was a *very* occasional terminus but now through; South Woodford has always been a through station (just wandered off into the library to check my signallling notices) - on that basis I'd suggest South Woodford as always being a through station. Now, if we try a different tack - joint ownership/station-ness we end up with South Woodford always being either LNE *or* LPTB as it was transferred when the extension opened to Woodford and Newbury Park; Ladbroke Grove was a joint GW/H&C station - well it was on the GW and Metropolitan Joint; Archway was LPTB (downstairs) and LNE (upstairs); I think Kensington Olympia - even as Addison Road wasn't a 'joint station' as such, the electric services just had 'stopping rights' - so on that basis I'd suggest Ladbroke Grove as being the odd one out as the only station on a railway formerly run by a Joint Committee. Hmmmmm. Ladbrook Grove, for the reason immediately above.

Hmmm..... I can't credit you with getting the completely correct answer, but you have given quite a massive clue in your answer.....

Is South Woodford the odd one because it's the only one not to have been renamed more than once?

This is about names and former names, but the number isn't relevant here.

Related to South Woodford previously being George Lane...? Or that you drive through the Archway, but along all the others?
my brain hurts now

Kensington (Olympia) has kept its suffix but the others lost theirs?

Kensington (Olympia) has kept its suffix but the others lost theirs? Well done, that is one of the two (related but separate) correct answers to this question. Now you've got this the other should be easy.

Archway, as Highgate (its former name/suffix) is a different station now?

That's true, but the answer I'm looking for doesn't involve any other stations.
