Hi Tonight we had am e-mail purporting to be a paypal receipt for a purchase of a PS3 for $400. They want you to click a link to dispute the item and naturally enter your password, hoping that people will do it in panic. The big giveaway is that the whole e-mail is in HTML, whereas genuine paypal mail is text and HTML. HTH David

Also, genuine Paypal e-mails always address you by your first and last names.

Also, genuine Paypal e-mails always address you by your first and last names. What happens if you have neither? Especially after the Inland Revenue were told my first name was a . (which incidentally is the same first name the Student Loans Company gave me - T fL gave me the honour of _ as a middle name). Just curious, like.

I've lost count on the number of times I've won millions on a lottery, or my email number has been selected to win a prize, or somebody I don't know has died or some good fearing person needs my bank account to move money out of the country. Sometimes they're fun to read - but I do feel that ISP's need to do more to stop people from falling for these cons. The best advice - just in case you need it - never click on a link in an email like this, instead log into the site using your normal URL/ bookmark etc. Remember - keep 'em peeled

I have a dedicated webmail account which I use for shopping, questionnaires, banking, ebay, paypal and the like. Whenever I get anything to my 'real' address, I know it's a spoof. Quite fun, though, anaylising the links and finding out where they really go.
