I'm trying to compile a list of all electronic tube maps officially released by LUL/TfL into the public domain, just the plain standard maps to begin with, plus the fantasy ones. Obviously other electronic maps exist, but I want to stick to the ones that collectors can legitimately have on their computers (and exchange). For diehard collectors, many of these are interesting because they have no paper equivalent.
This is what I have so far:
No date, but issued during 2000 No date, but between late 2001 and early 2002 No date, but April 2003 April 2003 May 2005 January 2006 June 2006 July 2006 August 2006 January 2007 November 2007 January 2008 March 2008 April 2008
And the fantasy maps:
Created in 2004, showing the projected network for 2016 Created in 2006, showing the projected network for 2010 Created in 2007, showing the projected network for 2025
Happy to email files to anyone who wants to fill gaps in their own collections.

I didn't think TfL ever released their maps into the public domain though - as they are usually very strict about copyright issues for the maps.

I meant public domain in the colloquial rather than the legal sense. I don't need a lesson on copyright issues and the Underground map, I've written about it. www.afterbeck.com

Max what do you mean these maps don't have a paper equivalent. Aren't these the posters at the stations ? Does this mean that TfL is posting different maps at the stations than online ?

The early maps often had no grid. Even today there are subtle differences quite often. For example, the January 2008 file correctly shows Shepherd's Bush as not yet open, presumably they printed all the posters and folders, and then realised there were problems with the station wall, and corrected the file. Also, I think T5 opened on the file earlier than on paper. It makes all those 'correct at time of press' claims a bit weird.
I've not done a full analysis, without the posters in front of me, I can't!

Oh I understand now. So Max was there ever a poster version at the stations for February that showed the blue boxes like the February pocket version ?

Wasn't there a tube map in the mid-80s showing the British Rail express service between Victoria and Gatwick?

Max,
Do you have the electronic versions of the Car Line Diagrams from when they started posting them on the web back in the early-mid ninties ? If so I would love pdf copies of them.

I don't remember that one. I've seen some unofficial maps that try to squeeze it on, but not the real thing. Could it have been a flyer that you remember rather than an official map?
Sorry, that one never registered in my memory. London Transport Museum takes all posters now, and are putting their collections online. In the next year, maybe we will just be able to look at the images directly to find out.
If they did, I never downloaded them, but that doesn't mean that other people didn't.
But early/mid ninetees sounds a bit in the internet dark ages to me. I'm not even sure that LRT (as it would have been) had a website back then.

Phil, you are a BAD BAD bear. I have spent 110 minutes doing the stupidly fiddly 247-triangle version. Go and sit on the naughty step and contemplate the error of my ways.

Has anyone noticed that the standard tube map on the TfL webpage has reverted back to the 1st March poster map. The April poster map that was there has been removed for some reason ?
Also the High Frequency Services shows "June 2008 Web update". Does this mean that there isn't a paper version of this at the stations ?
I still haven't seen the May pocket map yet. Is it available at the stations yet ?

There isn't a May update, last update was April after T5 opened. There shouldn't be an new pocket map until Wood Lane/Shepards Bush re-opening later in the year.
On a helpful note I will dig out my collection and make a list for people!

Mack actually there will be a May pocket map. It should be out soon. My source at TfL said they needed a new one because Oakwood is now step free on the map again and the "Mayor of London symbol is all blue now.

All blue? Is this a conservative tweak? I thought conservativism was represented by the color RED.

Cold war memories fade fast.
Better dead than red? Reds under the bed? We'll keep the red flag flying here?

The lift is in service now, though.

"Red" states tend to be conservative and vote Republican (mainly the Southern and Midwestern states), while "Blue" states tend to be liberal and vote Democrat(mainly states on the Northern half of the Atlantic coast and the entire Pacific coast).

In the UK it's the opposite - blue represents the conservatives and red labour (although there are many socialists who would disagree that this is appropriate)
