Well after a few months of waiting and endless telephone calls to 55 broadway. Looks like i finally got somewhere. Judging by reports from recently qualified drivers the tests have very little to do with driving a train. Pressing buttons on a computer when you see groups of dots and role plays about lost kittens...

Yeah i know about the Group Bourdon and Aptitude test, but i need more of an indepth reply as to what you do at the assessment centre first time getting there!

First Assessment covers fault finding (the lights test), reading comprehension, ability to follow instructions, and the concentration test. The middle two are very similar in that they're multiple choice - you are given either a paragraph of writing or a set of instructions, and answer questions about them. It's multiple choice format. Unless you do actually struggle with reading they should pose no serious problem. I found it easier than the identical section in my 12+, for instance. And thus ends the first assessment. Stage two is the roleplay/written assessment and, if you pass that, the interview. Both focus around the same scenario (although the scenario varies from person to person), and the emphasis is on your ability to communicate. Use the phonetic alahabet (a copy of which will be provided if you haven't memorised it yet!), be clear, repeat important information, and make sure you know your left from your right. The written is merely making a report of some sort about the incident you've just dealt with - again, be clear and not slangy, avoid jargon. The interview is 'competence based' which means they will ask questions about different areas and you need to supply answers based on your previous job(s), and they are seeing if you reach a certain standard. It's conducted by two people, one from the recruitment company and one operating official from TfL, such as a Duty Manager. The guidance given is that on the competency questions you should be looking to talk for about 5-10 minutes on each, explain what the situationw as, how you handled it, and what the outcome was. Use "I" instead of "we". Good luck!

That email has been sent out to everyone still waiting to hear - I guess they got fed up with people phoning to ask what was going on. From the content it seems they are dropping the idea of phone interviews as an initial assessment stage and just skipping straight to the tests. Hopefully that will make things much quicker (although 'quicker' is a relative term given how many applied!). Good luck!

Hopefully you're right, as I'd have passed the role play!!! I did the interview but I have a feeling I probably haven't passed it though......

As I said to you the other day, I gave some very rough sketchy answers in my interview and they still passed me. Fingers crossed...

No point them putting you through a long interview if they already know you've failed a previous stage, after all.

I suppose.......just that the chap doing the role play/interview with me said he knew someone who failed both parts at a previous assessment centre.
Chris.....had a chat with a SA who has since been offered Train Op...he reckons his interview was similar to mine, so may be some hope yet......

Hm, it's possible I've misunderstood something at some point, then. I don't know that many who have actually failed the roleplay; I can only think of one I know of, in fact.

The way it worked for me was Stage 1 was paper assessments. Stage 2 was the roleplay and psychometric testing and if you passed both of those you were also interviewed. I've heard of quite a few people failing the roleplay but it's fairly straightforward if you stick rigidly to the instructions.

For a while since I applied for the position off Tran driver (TFL5447) I've been reading these boards to get the fill to how the interview will go, I got as far waiting for a assessment date and a couple of days ago I got a letter from TFL, at last my assessment date is here, but no, it was a letter thanking me for applying but all positions are now filled.
It has taken 7 months since I first applied and they pull my application half way through, I phoned them up and was told all the position were filled by internal candidates.
Any way - good luck to those who did make it through.
