The new DLR ones sound dreadful. I think VERA also did the 'Bus stopping at next bus stop' announcement. I remember half the time VERA didn't even work! Emma Clarke can be just as unreliable! On my way to Ealing Common, via Hammersmith (H&C), The driver made a PA at Edgware Road that the Circle was closed and District partly suspended, and passengers for Wimbledon should change here. After that, the DVA didn't work! BTW, I didn't know the Viccy used to have VERA! I still really wanna hear VERA - I don't think she is the woman on the bus new announcements installed in the last year or so as that is Emma Hignett. When you say new DLR ones do you mean on the new rolling stock?

Piccadilly: Woman X (Late 2006) - but there was one before by adding in complex codes; same woman? Please correct me if the info is wrong and please help me by filling in the question mark areas. Many thanks. The pre-2006 Piccadilly announcements are by a man, as is heard on the Piccadilly line for BVE. It could say things such as "Please change here for the Jubilee and Victoria lines", played on arrival at Green Park.

Or in Tom's case, THIS IS A SECURITY ANNOUNCEMENT IT'S BEEN REPORTED THAT PICKPOCKETS ARE OPERATING AT EVERY DAMN STATION!. Soz couldn't resist.
Alight you can still hear Vera in the lifts at Hampstead, and a couple other stations on the lu network.

Err... by the driver in the cab or by a driver whose voice was recorded for this purpose?

I will listen out for VERA at Hampstead. Who is the woman at Piccadilly Circus > the platform announcer. Also I think at Covent Garden/Holborn? The driver ones would have sounded realistic yet quite poor quality (thank you for info Jim and seth)

VERA to me from that sounds like Celia Mark 1 on the Northern Line.
Btw I think there may be two different shouty men:
(classic)
The latter link is the classic one I believe, however the former link sounds more like a copy which I heard today at Victoria sub-surface lines.

Yes the Embankment Northern line platform is the only original voice left, Lu have replaced him everywhere else. Sadly!

Yes the Embankment Northern line platform is the only original voice left, Lu have replaced him everywhere else. Sadly! # Like I say there are different versions which survive at many Bakerloo Line stations e.g. Paddington but lack agression yet still no please. And as well all know there is a 3rd example of a male voice often on the District Line: "Minnnndd the gap please"

On that video, the 'stand clear of the doors please' announcement didn't play until the doors were already closing. It reminds me of a 67TS I was on once where the announcement went off after the doors had closed!

Slightly off LU but I was recently at Charing Cross mainline station and the announcer sounded just like Hattie Hayridge!

Ha thats another fake! (for those who dont know what the subtle difference is, just listen to Embankment link) It's not "fake" has it ever occured to you that more than one announcement was recorded? Listen to the one on the District and Circle line platforms at Victoria.

Edwin there is no need to be so rude..
Yes indeed there are many recordings on London Underground and I was quite clearly being sarcastic - it is a sound a like but not the classic mind the gap.

On a District Line train last Sunday, the train op forgot to turn off the announcement for Cannon Street. Some confused tourists heard 'The next station is Cannon Street. Change for National Rail services.' and stared at the map looking very lost indeed. The announcement for Monument came just as the train was arriving there.

Thanks for that, I'd not heard Anita announcing the stations before. I love the exaggerated voicing but you can see why it was inadequate, doesn't announce the next station and doesn't say "this station is". And "Southwark" sounds like "Thurrock"

Hey,
The thing is Anita actually read exactly what is shown on the screens - the screens don't display "This station is" and are also colloquial e.g. "Change for DLR".
What I think would be good (apologies, I cannot remember the user who suggested this convention) is to announce the station when you reach platform but in Anita style e.g. "Westt minster. Change for Disstrict and circles lines" .... doors open .... "This train terminates at Wemmmbly Parrk"

Yes, what Anita used to say is still displayed on the screens, although read by Celia. I distinctly remember Anita saying "Gweeen Parrrk. Change, for Piccadilly, and Victorrria Linnnes."
