I have been watching 225 Studios DVD of the East London and Metropolitan Line Wembley Park to Watford DEV's Far superior to Video 125's p*ss poor effort 'incidentally'. No camera shake or someone waffling on 'etcetera' to spoil it all. As DT says, the two companies are producing for two different markets, those who want a cab ride and for those who want that little bit more. Personally I find 225 studio DVDs rather boring as they are like a silent movie, Video 125s productions hve that edge, which makes them that little bit more professional..... My vote is with V125....

I think as Met App says they are for 2 different markets. I like V125 as they have some commentry and as i have limited railway knowledge, I can pick up new things. The way you get a "fly by" view is quite good as well. I suppose those who work on the railways know all about the signals, what signs mean and all the rules and regulations, but for people like me it's useful to have some commentry!
Also, i'd say that V225 are very cheaply made. The weather conditions are not always ideal and this makes things on the track a little harder to see. Sometimes you get a reflection of the camera man, or a conversation between a camera man and the T/Op.

It would seem that Q8's post has been deleted. Any idea what Video 225's website is?
Does anyone have any idea if any of their DEV's are available from Ian Allen, in Waterloo?

Theres a good selection of the 225 studio DVD in the Transport Museum Shop. I *think* that they are also available in the Ian Allan bookshop. I think the company is based in Sawbridgeworth, Herfordshire. Try a google search...

The Transport Museum shop's shut now, along with the museum isn't it?? No, there's a shop opened across the road for the LTM - see here www.ltmuseum.co.uk/shop/coventgarden.shtmlI believe what they plan to do is keep the shop where it is now so they have more space inside the museum itself.

I can see part of Q8's deleted post quoted at the top - I can't see why anyone would say 225's better than 125. 125's videos are professionaly done in my opinion and the 225 Wimble - Upminster VHS I bought a little while was very blurry in comparison to the latest 125 one and the camera was tilted to one side.

Depends what you want. If it's simple 'route knowledge' then Solidbond's DVDs knock spots off ALL the opposition. If you just want entertainment then it's 125 or 225 according to your taste.

The only real reason that i'm interested in 225 is that its got my route from Liverpool Street - Shenfield as a DEV Also, does anyone know if any driver here (or anywhere) is planning on doing a new SB style DEV of their particular line? Eg - T/op 92 would do Central, Seniorpicc would do Picc etc. ??

I'd like to see an up-to-date Central DEV, with perhaps a little commentary about the ATO system as well.

Do it Solidbond's way - SILENCE! (but with switchable subtitles)

spoke to video 125 earlier today and they said the bulk of their customers did not want an option choice regarding the commentary. They said the commentary is integral to the film, the analogy they used was reading a paper with no pictures. Waiting for solidbonds dvds and compare the difference.

The bulk of their customers may well want a commentary, but does the video company not want to attract new customers? Having a facility to turn the commentary on or off (very simple on a DVD) would allow them to appeal to a larger market. Still, it is none of our business if they are doing so well that they do not need to expand their customer base.

I think that at the end of the day we are very lucky that Video 125/225 Studios do London Underground DEV's at all and we should be thankfull for what we have got!

One thing puzzles me about 225. If V125 are being charged £300 p/h to film, how can 225 afford to make their films?

Maybe they blagged their way into some poor T/Op's cab ? From the apparent quality of their camera work, it doesn't sound like it's any more professional than that! Note: I am in no way saying that this is what 225 actually do!

But, by releasing the video, means that, should 'someone in high authority' see this video, then, by working out the time of day, train movements etc, they can work out who allowed them into the cab. An innocent clock 'in view' can give this away too. ANY T/Op knows that 'officially' no unauthorised persons are allowed in the driving cab. Passing trains would have also undoubtedly seen a camera/another person in the cab, or the Op was given an 'advance' by a rep from 225, and did the recoding himself. I have seen the 225 prods and think the quality is a bit naff, but this is just my thinking and my opinion.

Note: I am in no way saying that this is what 225 actually do! Perhaps the next step will be a company called 325 who shoot out of the back of a train using a mobile phone and then run the sequence in reverse.

Very good point david. yes lu do charge £300 per hour for commercial filming, but 225 do the straight run of a line and do not feature lineside shots or stations in depth [unlike v125]. lets not forget that if it didnt make them any money they wouldnt have done so many. The weird paradox is that v125 cab rides are cheaper to buy than 225s despite being technically superior and having[incidentally] rob curlings commentary. This is presumably down to the fact that 125 sell far greater volumes than 225 and their profit margins per disc are lower.

I managed to undershoot at my first station on the Circle (Liverpool Street) so - that was embarrassing! Apart from that, I'd say it was professional driving from me! LOL
Anyone else taken up this pastime?

How can you film yourself on BVE? I've read about it before, but don't know how.
