Not a competition - I really don't know, and I'd like to write the correct caption for it: www.flickr.com/photos/dh73/1853530200/Can anyone please tell me whether this is Woodford or Hainault, and any other nuggets of information to make the caption more interesting. The guy standing next to the unit is my friend and fellow LU traveller, Simon.

I've not been out that way in a while so feel free to correct me - I think it's Woodford. Hainault has a subway and is of a more modern design.
Edit : looking at the sign it says "WAY OUT - OVER FOOTBRIDGE FOR THE BROADWAY". According to Google Maps, The Broadway is right outside Woodford station. Therefore, Woodford, facing towards Hainault.

Woodford E/B platform. The Hainault platforms are straight, except the far right hand side one [approaching from Grange Hill]

Think its Woodford too. The train has just come out of the reversing siding and is waiting for the signal to return to Hainault. Before the single 1938 stock trailer was added, 2 cars of standard tube stock could be found sandwiched between the 1960 motor cars.
The plan was to use reconditioned standard stock trailers to make up 8 car trains with 4 1960 cars providing power. In the end the cost of converting the trailers and the urgent need to replace the Central line's standard stock lead to a follow-on order of 1959ts called the 1962 stock.

Heh, I have just looked at some of my oldie photos and thought 'Where the heck did I take that?' sort of thing, but luckily, Art made a guide book and index system for his photos... After much perusing of three books, I duly found out where and when...

Trains with indicators... now theres a novel idea! And some even have wing mirrors, I wonder how that will go down on the tube, must be cheaper than all those in cab monitors.

The Vickers used to have rear view mirrors. Some drivers with a wicked sense of humour used to use them to catch out their guards. Ricky and Preston Road were two places I recall where the train starting wires were a long way from the guard's door. As soon as the guard went over towards the wires and began to raise his flag, the driver, watching through the rear view mirror, would start the train. The guard had to be pretty quick to get back to his door without missing the train.
